The impact of brain injury often causes or amplifies difficulties with mental health, lack of housing, connection with the justice system, family and domestic violence, and limited employment opportunities. Synapse’s work addresses these underlying issues through knowledge and training, community engagement and tailored informational tools.
About the role
This is a role for someone who’s values align with this mission and purpose, and who is driven to make an impact for those impacted by brain injury. As a member of the senior leadership team, the purpose of this role is to engage, educate and inspire the various stakeholder groups and audiences that Synapse works with, and assist in the development of relationships that secure achievement of the strategic objectives that underpin their mission.
Managing a small team and reporting directly to the National Director of Strategy and Engagement, this role will focus on developing and delivering strategies and plans that enhance and promote Synapse’s profile, messaging, branding, fundraising, philanthropy, and influence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work to understand and gain respect for the unique stakeholder environment that Synapse operates in, identifying the various internal and external target audiences and how the organisation can better engage them;
- Develop and implement internal and external strategic marketing and communications strategies (B2B and B2C), including advocacy and public relations, that aligns with organisational objectives;
- Develop, monitor and evaluate a calendar / plan of marketing and communications campaigns and activities that support and achieve this strategy;
- Perform as a proactive, engaged member of the senior leadership and Executive team, providing expert marketing and communications advice and guidance where required;
- Oversee the ideation and creation of relevant copywriting and visual content across a variety of online channels and printed collateral, for a variety of audiences;
- Oversee editorial coordination and quality control of content for publications, including annual reports, eNewsletters and other essential marketing communications materials;
- Manage and mentor the marketing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional development and high-performance;
- Manage the marketing budget, including the management of external suppliers; and
- Write and prepare proactive and reactive media relations, including briefing and preparing spokespeople.
This is a strategic as well as a “hands-on”, operational role, that requires a mid to senior level marketing communications candidate with the ability to create an organisation wide strategy, play an active role in the senior leadership and Executive teams and deliver tactical activities alongside members of the team. To be considered for this role, your background, skills and experience must meet the following requirements:
- Brisbane based, with the ability to perform the role from the Synapse office in West End office for the majority of the working week;
- Minimum of eight years relevant professional experience in marketing communications;
- Previous experience in successfully managing and mentoring a team of marketing and communications specialists;
- Ability to understand and communicate complexity; consider implications of decisions and evaluate risk;
- Ability to engage positively and authentically with people from a vast range of backgrounds; conceptualise a vision, set ambitious targets and deliver;
- Proven ability to build strong, sustainable relationships across all areas of the organisation;
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including proof reading and editing for a range of print materials and digital platforms;
- Knowledge of digital marketing activities to drive campaigns;
- Have a good understanding around CMS ie Salesforce / Pardot to lead the team in customer activities; and
- Ability to work with a high level of autonomy, as well as part of a team nationally.
