The National Technical Manager will serve as a senior leader within the organization, overseeing the technical consultancy department on a national scale. Reporting directly to the executive general manager, this role requires extensive experience as a Principal Scientist/Engineer, along with proven management expertise and commercial acumen.
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the efficient delivery of projects, managing the P&L of the entire technical consultancy, and fostering growth and innovation within the team.

Duties:
- Utilize your extensive experience as a Principal Scientist/Engineer to oversee and ensure the successful delivery of projects nationwide.
- Take ownership of project management responsibilities, including budgeting, resource allocation, and timeline management.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to maintain compliance with client requirements and company processes.
- Provide guidance and support to project managers, ensuring project objectives are achieved while maintaining profitability.
- Lead by example in maintaining high standards of technical excellence and quality assurance.
- Oversee technical review processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of emerging technologies and industry best practices, driving innovation within the technical consultancy department.
- Communicate effectively both internally and externally, representing the company professionally and ethically.
- Attend meetings prepared and punctually, providing insightful contributions and strategic guidance.
- Complete financial reporting and analysis, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on industry trends, legislative changes, and emerging technologies, sharing knowledge and insights with the team.
- Utilize your commercial understanding and acumen to identify and pursue new business opportunities nationwide.
- Generate quotes and proposals for both existing and prospective clients, ensuring alignment with company objectives and profitability targets.
- Cultivate and nurture client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and driving customer satisfaction and retention.
- Financial Management and P&L Responsibility:
- Take financial responsibility for the P&L of the entire technical consultancy department, monitoring financial performance and implementing strategies to optimize profitability.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Implement cost-saving measures and efficiency improvements to maximize profitability while maintaining quality standards.
- Uphold company values and promote a culture of compliance with OH&S and environmental policies.
Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field
- Project management experience, preferably in environmental consulting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise tasks effectively
- Proven leadership abilities and a collaborative approach to teamwork
