About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Naval Architect to join our Maritime Sustainment team based in Garden Island NSW, reporting to the Platform System Engineering Manager

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.

As the Naval Architect - Structural/Hull you will provide technical leadership and guidance to the structures functions within the Guided Missile Destroyer System Program Office (DDGSPO) Platform Systems Portfolio. You will be responsible for ensuring efficiency, economy and quality structural/hull design solutions for the DDG Class.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical leadership to the structural/hull engineering activities conducted by the Platform Systems Portfolio.
  • Develop task plans (including estimates, cost and schedule) for platform systems projects/tasks and remain accountable for the holistic development and delivery of these tasks.
  • Oversee the delivery of structural engineering tasks in accordance with budget, schedule and priority.
  • Develop alternative concepts to structural problems and seek concurrence from other functional leads and the Platform Systems Portfolio Manager.
  • Manage Platform System Hull related engineering studies, evaluations and test & trials; including being accountable for the maintenance of ship structural margins (weight and stability).

About YOU

With exemplary communication skills and the ability to problem solve and analyse, you can undertake engineering activities without day to day guidance or supervision, including liaison with the broader platform systems portfolio, the combat systems portfolio and the DDGSPO configuration management and support functions.

  • Naval Architecture/Structural Engineer degree qualified.
  • Experience in platform system integration and systems engineering
  • Experience in maritime structural design, analysis and sustainment
