Our client is a national based not—for-profit organisation that is dedicated to supporting individuals in Australia living with a neurological disease. They have been a vital voice for this community, working tirelessly to increase awareness and understanding of this disease. The organisation advocates for the needs of those affected by the condition and plays a significant role in funding world-class research for better treatments, improved care, and ultimately, a cure.
Role Overview: As a Non-Executive Director with a legal background, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic oversight, guidance, and governance to the organisation. Drawing upon your extensive legal expertise, you will offer valuable insights into regulatory compliance, risk management, and corporate governance matters. Working closely with the Board and CEO, you will contribute to the development and implementation of effective legal strategies that align with the organisation's strategic objectives and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice and guidance on legal and regulatory matters affecting the organisation.
- Review and advise on corporate governance practices, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Assess and mitigate legal risks associated with business activities and strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement legal strategies that support business objectives.
- Monitor changes in legislation and regulatory requirements, and recommend necessary adjustments to organisational policies and procedures.
- Participate in Board meetings, providing input and oversight on legal and compliance issues.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Board and senior management team on legal matters impacting the organisations operations and growth.
- Qualified solicitor or barrister with significant post-qualification experience.
- Ideally at Partner level, proven track record of working at a senior level within the legal profession, with experience in corporate law, compliance, and governance.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks relevant to ideally to the not-for-profit sector.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Sound judgment and integrity, with a commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards.
- Previous experience serving on a Board of Directors or advisory board is desirable advising in a similar capacity.
