  • Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Date start: ASAP
  • Award/Rate of Pay: SCHADS AWARD Level: 6. The specific level of remuneration is dependent on the worker’s experience. 
  • Accountabilities: Manager of the North West Sydney WDVCAS & the Executive Officer of Blacktown Women’s and Girls Health Centre.
  • Area: This position is based in the Blacktown and Mt Druitt area. Travel within the LGA required.  
  • Closing Date: COB 5th February 2024

Blacktown Women’s and Girls Health Centre (BWGHC), is a feminist, non for profit charity meeting the needs of excellent health and wellbeing initiatives for women and girls and envisages a community in which women exercise equal rights, choose their own destiny and have a safe environment for themselves and their children. BWGHC work towards this by providing counselling, information and referral, advocacy, capacity building and support services to clients.

The organisation has been established in the area for over 30 years as one of 21 Women’s Health Centre’s across NSW. Over this time, the BWGHC has grown and evolved to run a range of programs including women only Doctor and Nurse Clinics, Early Childhood Clinics, Legal Services, Drug and Alcohol support and advice, Counselling (Generalist and Domestic Violence), Case Work, Group Work and Information Services and auspice the North West Sydney & the Nepean Blue Mountains Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Services. 

This position is for the North West Sydney WDVCAS (NWSWDVCAS) NWSWDVCAS provides information, referrals and advocacy to women and their children who are or have been experiencing domestic and family violence, addressing their legal, social and welfare needs. NWSWDVCAS assists women to obtain effective legal protection through application of Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs) at Blacktown & Mt Druitt local courts, assisting women before court, at court and after court. NWSWDVCAS assist women with safety planning, case management and case-coordination. 

A key component of NWSWDVCAS work involves fortnightly Safety Action Meetings (SAM) which are attended by police, WDVCAS and local services to assist women and children who are at higher risk, as assessed by police and/or NWSWDVCAS. 

About the position - Acting Assistant Manager (contracted position until 30th April 2025)

The Acting Assistant Manager supports the Manager in the overall administration and day to day coordination of the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS), whilst maintaining direct engagement with WDVCAS clients.

The Acting Assistant Manager exercises a high level of responsibility and provides high-level expert advice. It is recommended that this role is remunerated in with line with a Grade 6 (minimum) for a Social and Community Service Employee under the Social, Community, Homecare and Disability Services Industry Award 2022.

Responsibilities of this role 

Their work includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

• Assisting the Manager & the Assistant Manager in service delivery, and the overall administration and coordination of the WDVCAS; 

• Assisting the Manager & the Assistant Manager in developing and administering operational policies and administrative tasks, systems and processes for the effective operation of the WDVCAS; 

• Coordinating and managing the operation of discrete areas of the WDVCAS such as list day at a particular court; 

• Coordinating projects at the request of the Manager & the Assistant Manager

• Undertaking a variety of tasks relating to the operation of the WDVCAS, under the general direction of the Manager & the Assistant Manager

• Analysis of relevant quantitative and qualitative data (such as demographic information from the WDVCAS service area) and implementing appropriate strategies and changes to improve service delivery, and reporting of data analysis; and 

• Representing the Manager & the Assistant Manager at external meetings and forums as requested. 

Essential skills and knowledge 

• Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, complexities and legal and social welfare consequences of domestic and family violence; 

• Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic and family violence including AVO applications, criminal prosecutions and related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration and victim’s compensation issues; 

• Ability to deliver services in accordance with the WDVCAP Service Agreement, the WDVCAP Policy and Procedure Manual, the SAM Manual and other operational documents; 

• Good organisational, administrative, financial and management skills; 

• Ability to implement service delivery strategies aimed at ensuring the relevance, accessibility and responsiveness of WDVCAS services to a diverse range of women and children; 

• Ability to analyse relevant quantitative data and qualitative data to improve service delivery; 

• Experience in maintaining constructive working relationships with key stakeholders and good networking skills; and 

• Excellent communication skills, particularly in management, negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution; and 

• Current clearance in relation to Working with Children and relevant NSW Police Force checks.
