The opportunity The Nurse ManagerPatient Flow Support Unit is responsible for the management of the resources and activities that support clinical access, Patient Flow and hospital operations across a 24 hour period, 7 days a week. The Nurse Manager has key responsibilities for proactively managing patient access, Patient Flow, staffing replacement and bed capacity management across through the hospital. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the Townsville University Hospital campus management outside business hours. Patient Flow Support Unit The Patient Flow Support Unit operates 24 hours-a-day 7-days-per-week and is located on the first floor of the acute building of the Townsville University Hospital. The unit provides centralised Patient Flow management for the timely allocation of patients to clinically appropriate environments (home wards), considering patient safety, Queensland emergency access target (QEAT) and national elective surgery target (NEST) timeframes, while factoring elective and acute patient admissions, inter hospital and inter unit transfers. Casual and permanent pool staffing is managed by the Patient Flow Support UnitNurse Managers, after hours and on weekends. Role requriements Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position. Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus. Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster. The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following: Proven ability to provide expert nursing leadership and coordination with evidence-based nursing care in a multidisciplinary environment consistent with contemporary nursing practice. Sound knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory and the ability to apply relevant legislation, guidelines and standards. Ability to integrate the strategic direction and priorities for quality improvement into the clinical service, establishing a quality framework. Demonstrated advanced leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution and change management skills to ensure customer focused service provision amongst the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated high level of communication skills required for problem solving and decision making. Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position. Ability to demonstrate ongoing professional development of self and others. Understanding of teaching and learning in the health care environment (adult learning principles) with demonstrated clinical teaching and facilitation skills.
