About the service
The Royal Commission on Victoria’s Mental Health System has emphasized the need for a ground-breaking transformation in mental health care. The Greater Geelong and Borough of Queenscliffe (GGQ) Local Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, a joint effort involving Barwon Health, Watharoung Aboriginal Cooperative Ltd, Wellways Australia, and ERMHA365, has collaborated for the past year to implement this vital new service. Our goal is to bring about positive outcomes in mental health and wellbeing, cantered on themes of positivity, hope, and inclusivity. This initiative aims to bridge local and regional services effectively, providing support to consumers, carers, and service providers. We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide expertise in assessment and treatment within our integrated mental health and wellbeing local program focused on achieving positive results for our local residents.
About the Role
The Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MHNP) within the GGQ Local shall operate both independently and collaboratively in an advanced clinical capacity. Working closely with the GGQ Local Consultant Psychiatrist and the multidisciplinary team, the MHNP conducts evidence-based assessments, diagnoses, and delivers treatments. Their role involves setting high clinical standards, embodying organizational values, and promoting continuous enhancement. They perform advanced health assessments, develop therapeutic plans, prescribe medications, order and interpret tests, and make direct referrals to other healthcare providers and within the suite of GGQ Local supports provided.
Your key functions:
- Provide day-to-day clinical services as a Nurse Practitioner in accordance with GGQ Local, Barwon Health, and Department of Health protocols, clinical guidelines, scope of practice, and delegation guidelines.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and implement treatment plans for patients within the defined scope of Nurse Practitioner practice.
- Perform metabolic assessments, physical health screenings, order necessary investigations, and analyze results to improve patient outcomes.
- Offer expert advice to colleagues within GGQ Local and MHDAS within the realm of expertise.
- Make intricate clinical decisions when agreement cannot be reached within GGQ Local or when it surpasses the scope of practice.
- Demonstrate leadership, offer guidance, and maintain clinical standards to provide top-notch healthcare.
- Foster a culture of ongoing development and improvement.
- Conduct clinical assessments, including comprehensive health evaluations tailored to mental health nursing practitioner practice within a specialized area.
Your experience:
- NMBA registration with Nurse Practitioner endorsement, demonstrating proficiency in meeting ANMC competencies for Registered Nurses.
- Strong expertise in Mental Health.
- Focus on high-quality consumer care, recovery, and trauma-informed approach.
- Clinical leadership experience.
- Willingness to provide direct care within Mental Health Nurse Practitioner scope.
- Extensive experience in Mental Health, Alcohol, and Drugs care.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, teach, and mentor staff.
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills in acute multi-disciplinary settings.
- Proactive in innovation and quality improvement.
- Expertise in portfolios like physical well-being of consumers with acute mental health needs, family violence, and community engagement.
- Experience in establishing Nurse Practitioner roles in evolving services.
- Background in research and service evaluation.
- Comprehensive understanding of Australia's mental health service system.
