The Women's & Children's Health Network provides state of the art health care for women, babies, children and young people across South Australia.  We are the state's leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions as well as being South Australia's largest maternity and obstetric service, and statewide Maternal Fetal Medicine service. 

Our community-based services also reach hundreds of thousands of babies, children and young people, their families and communities across South Australia through our various services and programs in areas such as our Mental Health, Child & Family Health services, Youth Health and Aboriginal Health services.

The Paediatric Palliative Care Service (PPCS) provides support to families caring for a child with a life-limiting illness. This is tailored to each family's individual needs to help make decisions about care. The Paediatric Palliative Care Service is uniquely responsible for the provision of care across the whole state of South Australia and into Northern Territory, Broken Hill and Mildura.

The PPCS is a statewide service providing specialist care for children with life-limiting conditions. Our mission is to provide excellent service to children and families facing life-limiting illness through partnership with families, interdisciplinary teamwork, and offering holistic care.

The service is a multidisciplinary team of health care specialists including:

  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Grief and Loss Coordinator
  • Social Workers
  • Art Therapists

The Opportunity

An exciting ongoing opportunity exists within the Paediatric Palliative Care Service team to join as a Nursing Service Director (RN 5.1) working in a part-time capacity.  

In this role, you will: 

  • Use your clinical knowledge and expertise to provide strategic and operational leadership, clinical governance, HR / administrative management and implementation of strategic development. 
  • Coordinate and support innovation in care, research and safety and quality improvement within the service, WCHN and at state and national level.  This includes actively participating in internal and external advisory groups, expert panels, working groups and committees. 
  • Provide professional and operational nursing advice and leadership to the Paediatric Palliative CareNursing Service and across the health network, community Nursing Services and interdisciplinary teams to those caring for children with life limiting illness. 
  • Oversee the nursing staff, coordinate patient care and ensure the delivery of specialised holistic individualised care for children living with life limiting conditions across the state of South Australia and the Northern Territory.  This includes the development of protocols, management of resources, collaboration with other healthcare professionals / health services across the health network and provide leadership in maintaining high quality, holistic care for the client and family. 
  • Provides direct leadership to clinical staff, providing high level clinical assessment and advice, clinical service planning, evaluating practice culture to align with the CREATE values, clinical research, practice development, education and training and clinical practice responsibilities.
