Taronga has vacancies for volunteers in the hands-on role of Nutrition Volunteers at Taronga Zoo. Taronga Zoo cares for a number of species with animal welfare being our top priority and focus. Our Volunteers assist with the preparation of food for a wide range of animals across the zoo. Successful applicants will have the opportunity for real, hands-on experience in zoo nutrition.
Animal Nutrition is the central hub to most divisions, which allows you to gain insight into what food each animal eats, what enrichments are provided for the animals and how each animal prefers their meals to be prepared. You will gain experience through assisting with the preparation of food for a wide range of animals across the zoo. You will also learn the standardised requirements for WHS and get an inside view of how we feed approximately 5,000 animals!
Position details
- This role is available all days, Monday to Sunday, 7.30am-2pm.
- Applicants must be available to work at least one day per fortnight, weekly preferred
- This position requires a commitment of 12 months
- All Taronga Volunteers are required to attend and complete induction & training
- Position located at Taronga Zoo Sydney
To be successful in this role you will:
- Show commitment, punctuality, reliability, and a professional, friendly manner
- Demonstrated skills in food preparation and an interest in learning about animal diets
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
- Be able to maintain accuracy and motivation with repetitive tasks
- Experience in food preparation is an asset
- Enjoy working with people and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team environment
- Please note: this role will have no animal contact
