Queensland Corrective Services are seeking an enthusiastic person to undertake the role of Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Coordinator (OHSEC) based at Borallon Training and Correctional Centre.
As a member of the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing team, your focus will be to contribute to the department’s commitment to providing and maintaining a culture for a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment. This will be achieved through the provision of advice, and assistance with ensuring compliance across the department’s Workplace Health and Safety and Injury Management functions.

This role provides significant support and advice to centre management to promote and embed a safety culture across the centre and assist with the implementation and review of the QCS Health Safety and Wellbeing framework. This includes the coordination of safety systems incorporating hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigations, safety assurance and injury management programs and initiatives, to ensure positive outcomes for staff and the department.
The essential requirements for this role include:
- Experience in the delivery of workplace rehabilitation and injury management services.
- Knowledge and experience in the application of risk management strategies and methodologies to ensure the identification and mitigation of risk as they apply to health and safety.
- Highly developed oral communication skills for dealing with sensitive staff matters and enquiries and providing training to staff and management of OHS&E standards and processes.
- Interpersonal skills for negotiating with internal and external stakeholders, who often have competing interests, on sensitive and complex issues.
- Research and analytical skills for investigating issues and analysing trends.
