About the Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for an Occupational Hygiene Technician to join the Wagerup Refinery, Health & Safety team under the direction of the Site Hygienist.
As a business we will value your input as you will be a key contributor in carrying out the site exposure monitoring and assessment program which enables effective identification, evaluation and control of hazardous work-place exposures.
You will be required to produce reports and communicate your findings based on the sampling, analysis and interpretation of the results that you've acquired. The data collected and information prepared is used to uphold Alcoa's values in the area of health and safety and to comply with corporate EHS policies, standards and legislation.
Other duties and responsibilities will include:
The development and periodic maintenance of a plant job/task dictionary.
Conducting and completing the site quantitative base-line exposure assessment monitoring plan using air sampling, biological monitoring and physical measuring techniques.
Working with the operating department supervisors and employees to ensure that personal exposure monitoring can be carried out with area cooperation.
Interpreting exposure data collected to identify significant and unacceptable exposures for the areas and makes recommendations to identify means of controlling and minimising potentially hazardous exposures.
Entering and maintaining relevant Occupational Health data into the computer data management systems.
Assisting the areas where significant exposure hazards have been identified and evaluate feasible control options in consultation with the Occupational Hygienist.

What you can bring to the role:
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
Experience within a heavy industrial/mining environment, and a NATA accredited Laboratory desirable
Occupational exposure monitoring experience across a wide range of stressors
Ability to complete structured work within the requisite time frames
Capability to self-manage Occupational Hygiene and Health related projects when required
Completion, progress towards or capacity to complete DEMIRS Mine Air Quality Officer and Noise Assessor Course (previously Noise Officer)
Membership with the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygiene
Completed or working towards a post-secondary Certificate, Diploma or Tertiary qualification in science or health related field.
Great communication skills to interact with employees working out in the Chemical Processing Plant
