Occupational Therapist - REDC
About us:
In 2024, the Hunter New England Local Health District is preparing to open the groundbreaking Residential Eating Disorders Centre (REDC) in New South Wales. Once construction is finished, this facility will be located in Charlestown, within the Lake Macquarie region, situated on Bahtabah Country. Currently we reside at the Mater Mental Health Centre in Waratah, which is on Awabakal Country.
Charlestown, situated 15km from Newcastle CBD, boasts outstanding community connectivity and transportation accessibility. It is embraced by natural bushland and surrounded by residential areas.
This cutting-edge establishment, featuring 12 beds, is specifically designed to accommodate individuals aged 16 and older who are grappling with Eating Disorders, offering a comforting home-like atmosphere. Our skilled multidisciplinary team will oversee a comprehensive program of individualized and group therapies, implementing a rehabilitation approach. The therapies will focus on tailored treatments for Eating Disorders, tackling psychosocial challenges, and improving overall well-being.
About the role:
The Level 5 Occupational Therapist will be a member of the senior clinical care coordination team who will work closely with the manager to provide leadership and governance. The role will ensure an Occupational Therapy perspective is embedded into all aspects of service development and delivery. This will include:
- Comprehensive and collaborative client care including assessment of occupational functioning to inform recovery-oriented care plans which address the functional impacts of the clients eating disorder.
- Designing, delivering and evaluating specialist OT interventions (individual and group)
- Providing leadership in the ongoing design and delivery of the group program for maximum therapeutic benefit.
- Collaborative and individualised planning and preparation for discharge
- Optimising opportunities for occupational engagement within REDC and also through establishing networks and linkages with community
- Providing support and supervision of less experienced REDC staff members and consultation/engagement with broader HNE MH Occupational Therapy network.
Our successful candidate will be linked with the Occupational Therapy clinical network of Hunter New England Mental Health. This includes linkage with Occupational Therapy Head of Discipline, regular professional network meetings, access to regular supervision, ongoing education and professional development relevant to the role.

Requirements:
- Must hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy and general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Eligible to drive in NSW.
- Must hold a valid Working with Children Check.
