Join our dynamic team as an Occupational Therapist specializing in complex mental health cases, including severe and enduring Mental Illness accompanied by co-morbidities such as Substance Use, Intellectual Disability, aging issues, Metabolic Syndrome, Forensic, and Involuntary legal status. These individuals often face challenges with communication, understanding mental illness and symptoms, mobility, motivation, and cognition. Your role will primarily focus on a designated caseload within our Comprehensive Rehabilitation Unit (CRU), with opportunities to extend services to other units on campus, ensuring continuity of care. You will assess and develop skills with consumers transitioning from higher support settings to our Cottages, emphasizing discharge planning into the community and conducting interventions individually and in group settings. Additionally, you'll provide detailed Functional Reports, collaborate with key stakeholders including NDIS/HASI Plus for discharge planning, and play a crucial role in reducing consumer length of stay by delivering Occupational Therapy services within the Statewide Pathways to Community Living Initiative framework, collaborating with the Community Transition Team.
- As an employee of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Service, this role is primarily based in the Clinical Rehabilitation Unit (CRU). CRU provides inpatient rehabilitation in the format of 9 “Cottages” each with 5-6 consumers.
- You will be in a team of OTs providing functional assessment and interventions in the Cottages as part of the Multidisciplinary Team of the unit. You will also be part of the Allied Health co-located hub; there is a great collaborative culture of sharing caseloads, ideas and resources for fantastic team spirit and consumer focus. Collaborating with the CRU Nursing team is essential to providing quality care in the unit.
- You will have opportunities to facilitate interventions that are Cottage based, campus based and community based with a focus on both Rehabilitation and Recovery.
How you will be supported:
- You will be line managed by the OT Team Leader who will engage in regular leader rounding, PDR process as well as regular clinical and program planning support.
- Morisset Hospital has a thorough In-service and training program available to all staff for learning and development, this includes opportunities for staff to facilitate in-services in their area of expertise or share external training they have completed
- The HNEMH OT Network has a strong team of senior staff across the different clinical streams and exchange skills and support during scheduled network meetings throughout the year all under the leadership of the HNE Head of Discipline for Occupational Therapy who provides support to each team. The HNEMH OT Network has a strong culture of clinical supervision in which you will be supported to participate.
