The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) manages elections events for State and Local governments and non-parliamentary organisations.
About the role
The Operations Manager is a new role within the Election Operations Division and is responsible for the operational delivery and review of the State General Election 2025 and Local Government Election 2025.
The role involves oversight of all election contracts; project plans; securing and management of election polling venues; management of the election event critical path and schedules; stakeholder management; risk management; emergency management and budgets. This is a fixed term full time contract opportunity with the possibility of extension and /or permanency. This selection process may be used to identify suitable applicants for similar vacancies that may arise in the next twelve months. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
About you
We are looking for a professional operator who has had experience in leading and managing large-scale projects, events and large teams. You will have proven experience in a similar role in the last five years and have exemplary planning and organisational skills.
You will have well highly developed leadership and management skills with an ability to translate strategy into operational goals and deliverables. You will be able to demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to day-to-day changes in priorities.
You will work within the Election Operations Division and as a member of the WAEC will work to achieve its objectives, comply with its values and provide services which are in accordance with existing frameworks.
Proven experience in a similar role in the last 5 years is desirable.

- Demonstrated highly developed leadership, management, strategic planning and change management skills and ability to coordinate and deliver strategic outcomes.
- Demonstrated highly developed organisation skills, including a proven ability to develop and implement processes and projects to facilitate monitoring and reporting on the delivery of new initiatives.
- Demonstrated high level conceptual and analytical ability, with the ability to solve complex problems and risk management skills and undertake business process reengineering and experience in leading system improvements and providing innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
- Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into operational goals and deliverables, develop appropriate practice to support policy intent and engage others to communicate and support strategic direction and sound experience in assessing business performance and conceptualising and developing new/improved initiatives.
- Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to undertake high-level consultations, collaborations and negotiations. Sound interpersonal skills, including consultation and negotiation skills, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated substantial knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues and trends impacting and relating to managing electoral operational management and election systems and services
