Our work covers the full range of mineral processing techniques, particularly flotation and hydrometallurgy for base metals materials. High-purity inputs into the battery and alloy addition markets are a specialty.
To continue our growth, we require a highly experienced Operations Manager to join us in managing the Metallurgical Testing team. The Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the successful execution of various metallurgical tests at BML across a range of client projects.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Ensure the delivery of metallurgical tests in line with BML’s objectives of high speed, high quality, and low cost;
- Act as the second-in-charge for the Lab Manager/General Manager during their absences;
- Schedule and coordinate the delivery of all metallurgical testwork programs;
- Lead Project Managers and Metallurgical Technicians in executing testwork programs;
- Anticipate and address operational risks, providing strategic solutions;
- Liaise with clients regarding the progress of their testwork programs;
- Promote and attract new client business to the lab; and,
- Oversee the budget of the Metallurgical Testing group.
As cultural fit is the most important criteria for our business, you should have:
- A Tertiary Qualification in Process Engineering and/or Chemical/Metallurgical Engineering is an essential technical qualification with a post-graduate qualification being a significant advantage;
- Previous experience in business development, leadership or operations management or equivalent are key requirements of the role. Formal general management qualifications eg MBA or similar would be a distinct advantage;
- 10 plus years of Metallurgical Testing experience in the mining industry;
- Exceptional organisational skills;
- Excellent attention to detail, with an obsessive-compulsive disorder level of precision;
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills;
- Extensive experience in executing metallurgical testwork programs across various commodities and processes;
- Strong resilience and adaptability in a highly fluid work environment;
- Exceptional situational awareness and critical thinking skills;
- Demonstrated judgment, integrity, and problem-solving ability;
- Positive attitude, curiosity to learn, and ability to contribute suggestions for improvements or change; and,
- Advanced understanding of metallurgical and analytical processes and testing procedures, combined with a very strong mechanical aptitude.
