The Role

Reporting to the Manager Woodchip Terminals - Operations & Business Improvement, the purpose of this position is to coordinate the safe, environmentally sound and cost-effective stockpiling and shiploading of woodchips, including the supervision of fulltime and casual contractor personnel.  This is undertaken by utilising TasPorts systems and processes to ensure all stakeholder requirements are available.

Key Duties Include: 

  • Supervise stockpile management in accordance with customers’ requests (deliveries and shiploading activities).
  • Coordinate/supervise all shiploading activities, pre/post events.
  • Coordinate mobile fleet maintenance and repairs (4 dozers, 1 excavator and telehandler).
  • Act as terminal representative (as/if required) during shiploading events.
  • Create jobs and purchase orders for all operational expenditure. 
  • Create/confirm shiploading operator rosters.
  • Provide monthly details as required: shipping, operations, maintenance.
  • Contactable out of hours as 24/7 operation.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience: 

  • Ability to plan and schedule work activities for contractors/external resources. 
  • Demonstrated experience in controlling special projects, capital works and budgets. 
  • Sound interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with the ability to manage a diverse range of contractors, and other stakeholders. 
  • Capable of performing manual handling and labouring tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation of plant and equipment as it relates to a port environment.

Under minimal supervision from the Manager, you will possess the skills necessary to supervise the resources associated with woodchip stockpiling, woodchip reclaiming and associated activities expected to complete the key duties of the role and to coordinate work outputs. You will be able to maintain an effective working relationship with personnel from the BCET team, woodchip delivery contractors, the reclaim dozing labour providers, and the broader TasPorts NW Operations/Maintenance teams.

During shiploading events, you will supervise all loading activities in consultation with shiploading supervisor and stockpile operator.

You would be required to compile records and prepare reports; take responsibility for the performance of the operations including workplace health, safety and environmental issues; undertake asset management planning and implementation of plans; resolve operational problems that may be complex in nature; monitor budget expenditure and allocation of resources (contractors). You are responsible to contractors assigned to you. They are accountable to you for completing the work that you assign to them, to the required standards.   

Qualifications & Licences: 

Essential

  • A current drivers’ licence. 
  • Ability to obtain and hold a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)

Desirable

  • Excavator Licence
  • Woodchip Dozer Licence
  • Loader/Telehandler Licence
  • Forklift License
  • Trained and competent as Level 2 Isolation Officer 
  • Trained and competent to issue Permit to Work / Work Permits. 
  • Trained and competent to issue Hot Work Permits. 
  • Trained and competent for Confined Space entry. 
  • Workplace Level 2 First Aid (or equivalent)
  • Port Facility Security Officer (or ability to obtain)
  • VHF Radio license
  • Security License Level 2 (or ability to obtain)
