Operations Systems & Planning Specialist

Come and join the Western Sydney Airport team delivering Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, the lynchpin of the extraordinary transformation currently underway to develop Sydney's third city and Aerotropolis.

One of the largest infrastructure projects underway in Australia, Western Sydney International will open to international, domestic and air cargo services in late 2026 and will eventually grow to be one of Australia's biggest gateways to the world.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Operations Systems & Planning Manager, this role is a member of the Operations Delivery team who supports departmental leaders and Airport Controllers to deliver high levels of operational performance as well as safe and exceptional passenger service experience.

The position will contribute to the administration, governance and development of all Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) operational systems, operating procedures, business rules and workflows as well as supporting AOCC personnel training and conducting key operational system functions. This role will work closely key internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Provide a high level of experience in operational systems and planning , to enable AOCC effectiveness.
• Contribute to the administration and governance of all AOCC operational systems, operating procedures, business rules and process workflows.
• Support the requirements of the business through maintaining and amending resource plans to optimise operational output.
• Support the delivery of key operational system functions including AOS aero-billing, seasonal resource allocation planning and FIDS requirements.
• Assist in developing and continuously reviewing standard operating procedures by working collaboratively with key internal/external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with technology team to ensure system maintenance and upgrades are completed when operationally practical.
• Support to identify system and training opportunities and strengthen operational resilience through innovation.
• Support and participate in user acceptance training and the delivery of operational systems for the AOCC.
• Involvement in special assignments related to operational performance and performance improvement, efficiency, business development, long range planning and other strategic opportunities.
• Monitor controls to proactively test scheduled hours against budget hours to ensure that schedules conform with authorised resources prior to those schedules being released.
• Participate in corporate projects as Airport Operations subject matter expert to ensure thorough implementation of initiatives and deliver value-driving projects.
• Assist in the development of standards to ensure the AOCC operates to maximum efficiency and performance to allocate operational facilities within the terminal including check-in, baggage make-up areas, baggage reclaim, aircraft stands and bussing operations.
• Ensure ongoing system performance and development of IT systems that are relevant to the functions of the Airport Operations Control Centre to meet current and future requirements.
• Supports the AOCC leaders to conduct regular audits of operational system rules and procedures, to ensure a safe and efficient use of airport resources are effective and compliant with safety and security practices and regulations.
• Assists the development of operating plans that meet stakeholder requirements, retail and commercial objectives to ensure a robust, efficient and cost-effective service delivery product.
• Contributes to the development of Terminal and AOCC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Contribute to resolve complex safety or security incidents.
• Collaborate with airport agencies and authorities to ensure airport operations meet performance, safety and security standards.

About You

• A minimum of 2 years' experience in an operations centre environment, preferably from Aviation.
• Demonstrated experience and high level skills in planning and analysis.
• Ability to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) and/or other required security clearances.
• Knowledge of and experience with resource planning in an operations control environment
• Experience in developing procedures, training manuals, and building processes within operational systems.
• Ability to identify emerging system and technology trends and opportunities for partnership across aviation, cargo, retail, hospitality, transport and logistics industry.
• Systems literate and technology astute.
• Confident, self-motivated, comfortable taking and accepting responsibility.
• Ability to keep tight deadlines and work in an environment that may be under pressure.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to change, deal with ambiguity. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
