POSITION OBJECTIVES
The Assistant Director is responsible to report to the service Deputy Director & Director as well as the approved provider for the overall operation, management, and administration of the OSHC and/or vacation care service, ensuring that:
• Quality care is provided to meet the individual and group needs of school age children in a respectful, supportive, equitable and inclusive manner
• A vibrant, interesting, varied and appropriate children’s program is developed and implemented to meet the ongoing needs of the children
• The philosophy, policies and procedures of the Service are upheld, implemented and, contributed to through the Director/Deputy Director, to meet relevant requirements
• The children and families of the OSHC / Vacation Care community are encouraged to contribute to the quality and success of the Service
• General supervision and leadership is provided for all employees within the service
• In the temporary absence of the Director & Deputy Director, licensing and all statutory and quality assurance issues are managed and complied with.
• With the Director & Deputy Director, or in the temporary absence of the Director & Deputy Director responsible for the welfare of children and staff in emergency situations.
JOB SPECIFICATION
All responsibilities and duties must be carried out with regard to and including:
•Contribute, through the Director & Deputy Director to the development of the centre or service’s policies.
• Responsible for the day-to-day management of the centre or service in the temporary absence of the Director & Deputy Director for management and compliance with licensing and all statutory and quality assurance issues.
• Generally supervise all employees within the service.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Leadership experience is required.
- Must have experience working in a large OSHC service.
- Must be available to work 5 days a week. Minimum 30 hours.
- During the contract variation period must be able to work 38 hours per week
- Must be available for opens and closes.
QUALIFICATION
An approved qualification for working with children over preschool age in South Australia as listed on the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) website.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Ability to interact with children in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner
- Ability to facilitate inclusion and meet the individual needs of all children
- Ability to develop and implement positive behaviour guidance practices
- Responsible for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate programs for children reflecting the social nature of the community using a recognised learning framework ie, MTOP
- Experience interacting with groups of children
- Ability to assist families in a sensitive supportive and professional manner
- Ability to cope effectively in an emergency or stressful situation
- Highly developed observation and reporting skills
- Effective administration, business, marketing and financial management skills
- Effective operational, leadership and human resource management skills
- Knowledge of adult learning principles
- Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills
- Adequate keyboard, computer and software package skills, including software programs for administering childcare benefit
- Sound knowledge of administrative functions of an OSHC service
- Effective time management skills
- Knowledge of the responsibilities of the employer and employee under the work, health and safety legislation
- Knowledge of the employer responsibilities under relevant awards/agreements and the National Employment Standards
- Knowledge of relevant state and Australian government legal compliance requirements relating to education and care services
- Knowledge of and commitment to, the principles of equal opportunity
- Knowledge of child protection responsibilities.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- A current approved first aid qualification, anaphylaxis management training and emergency asthma management training as listed on the ACECQA website
- WWCC Working with Children Check
- Current Responding to abuse and neglect – education and care training
- Attendance at out-of-hours meetings, training and service functions.
