About Your Role
This Level 3 Social Worker role works as an integral part of the multidisciplinary Palliative Care Team, providing quality services to patients/clients of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District to meet their mental health and wellbeing needs post a Sudden Death. The clinician is responsible for supporting clients and their families who have recently been impacted by a recent death.
This response will include assessment, case formulation clinical intervention and evaluation. This intervention may will include individual and group modalities. The clinician should have experience delivering complex mental health intervention. They should have a comprehensive knowledge of grief and bereavement counselling techniques and theoretical practices. This role requires the need to provide time critical responses and crisis driven interventions to Sudden Deaths including suicide, accidents, sudden cardiac death, stroke and sudden infant death syndrome.
The clinician will have the ability to provide education and support to MLHD staff in relation to bereavement and the improved support of families post the sudden loss of their loved ones. They will also provide education and support to staff in relation to self-care and compassion fatigue when dealing with multiple bereavements in the workplace. This position sits within the multi-disciplinary Palliative Care team across the district to implement evidence-based practice and counselling interventions to families affected by a sudden bereavement. A combination of face to face clinical services, virtual services and consultative service delivery models will be used. The clinician will be able to demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills and operate with minimal direct clinical supervision.
Provision of education on relevant topics to both the Palliative Care Team and other teams in MLHD is also part of this role. As a level 3 clinician, supervision of students and provision of clinical supervision to other counsellors or Social Workers is part of the role.
