The Panel Room Technician is accountable to the Technical Superintendent and the Barge Master for the management of the vessel's engineering department and all plant and machinery, exercising independent professional judgement as appropriate.
Panel Room Technician is authorized and obliged to inform the Barge Master when any operation or task has, or has the potential to put the vessel's systems, machinery, or other assets at risk.
Job duties
- Implementing and following Safety Management System onboard the vessel.
- Support the Barge Master and provide technical subject matter expertise as required.
- Providing leadership to the Engineering Department and all Barge Crew.
- Maintaining the seaworthiness of the vessel, including controlling the trim, stability, and stress of the vessel.
- Assessing, inspecting, and reporting defects or damage to the vessel, and its machinery and equipment.
- Detecting and identifying he cause of machinery and equipment malfunctions.
- Maintaining and repairing vessel machinery and equipment.
- The management and implementation of the MEX planned maintenance system onboard.
- Maintaining complete and accurate records of all engineering related tasks and operations.
- Diploma of Engineering - Technical / Diploma of Marine Engineering (MEM50212 or MAR50120 or Equivalent)
- Certificate of Medical Fitness (STCW I/9)
- Survive at Sea in the Event of Vessel Abandonment and Personal Survival Techniques (MAR0466 or Equivalent)
- Contribute to fire prevention and firefighting (basic firefighting) (MARF035 or Equivalent)
- Prevent, control and fight fires on board a vessel (advanced firefighting) (MARF044 or Equivalent)
- Provide Advanced First Aid / Apply Medical First Aid on board Ship (HLTAID014 or MARF032 or Equivalent)
- Operate survival craft, rescue boat and lifesaving appliances (proficiency in survival craft) (MARF043 or Equivalent)
