The Surrey Downs Community Children’s Centre is a 45 place non for profit long day care setting. We have a supportive Parent Management Committee who priorities the children’s wellbeing over profit. The centre pays above award wages with other benefits for the educators including paid training and an additional 2 weeks paid leave over the Christmas closure period, after one year of service.
Currently we are looking for an educator to join our staff team in the Baby Room. The role is a permanent Part time 5 day per week role in our Baby Room. The usual hours will be 6.5 hour shifts of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with a shift time of 10am until 5pm or numbers drop and a 8 hour shift on a Friday, with the a usual shift time of 8am to 5pm, but this may change if educators are on annual leave. The successful applicant will need to be flexible to be able to pick up additional 8-hour shifts between 6:45am and 6:10pm, when staff are on personal or annual leave.
There will be responsibility toward programming for a small group of children so time off the floor for this will be provided. This role will start as soon as possible. Attendance at monthly staff meeting will be required and TOIL will be given for the time spent at these – which can be used to leave early on occasion or be paid out.

To apply you will need…
- A Diploma or Certificate 3 of Early Childhood Education and Care (or ACECQA approved qualification or working towards)
- Current Working With Children Check
- Current Responding to Abuse and Neglect Training
- First Aid training including current CPR certification
- Flexibility to be able to change shifts at short notice
- Excellent communication skills with children, families and educators
- The ability to work with children of all ages, across the centre
Job Responsibilities …
- Supervise, interact and engage with all children and families
- Assist in providing an educational program for the group and individual children
- Providing learning opportunities for children through the use of open ended questions and intentional teaching methods
- Be able to follow rosters and routines but also own initiative
- Provide support to team members as required
- Critically reflect on routines and other aspects of your work
- Work within policies and procedures of the centre
