The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The Team

The Payroll, Systems and Reporting (PSR) Section is part of the AEC People Branch, within the Enabling and Regulation Group. The PSR section is responsible for the provision of payroll related services, the maintenance and development of the Aurion HR management information system (HRMIS), and the workforce reporting and analytics to support informed workforce decision making.

To support these critical functions, the PSR section provides expert advice regarding conditions of employment and the preparation and reconciliation of the fortnightly payroll, configures, and maintains the Aurion HRMIS. The section additionally provides regular and ad-hoc workforce data and metrics to assist staff management and meet external legislated reporting requirements.

Payroll Team

The role is responsible for undertaking work that is complex in nature, under general direction, utilising functional expertise and for day-to-day payroll processing, including salary and entitlement calculations, within a medium sized agency comprising of staff engaged under the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth) and through statutory appointments governed by the Remuneration Tribunal.

You will build rapport and maintain stakeholder relationships, including liaising with stakeholders to assist in resolving moderately complex issues. Including representing the work area at internal and external meetings and conferences.

You will make and communicate decisions within defined boundaries relating to the area of responsibility using expertise and knowledge, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures, and strive for continued improvement.

HR Systems Team

You will be an experienced technical officer who enjoys working in a complex, fast paced, and challenging environment. In this technical role, you will be required to support your team in the delivery of the department in the management and operation of the HRMIS, Aurion.

Some key responsibilities include management of the HRMIS environment and issues at multiple complexities, including problem solving, issue resolution and testing in the UAT environment. Some general management of the department’s ICT infrastructure is also required. 

This role will assist with guides and training of stakeholders to ensure the proficiency in the use of the HRMIS. You will support AEC business areas and stakeholders in the use of the employee self-service (ESS). As a Systems Administrator, you will be first point of contact and triage enquiries and workload to address and resolve enquiries relating to the Aurion application.

  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate excellent initiative and judgement to deliver outcomes supporting the AEC’s strategic direction. 

Payroll Team

  • Sound knowledge of employment legislation, including with respect to superannuation, workers compensation, long service leave, maternity leave. 
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering and managing quality payroll services within the APS or State Government.

HR Systems Team

  • Experience in configuration of Aurion, the AEC’s Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS). 
  • Ability to draft and maintain system administration documentation, intranet articles, and technical support documentation as required.
