About the RoleJoin our team as a Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Learning Adviser! In this new role, you'll spearhead our university-wide peer-learning program at the University of Melbourne. Based in the Scholarly Development (Student Learning and Academic Skills) team, your mission is to boost students' academic progress and foster a strong sense of connection within their faculties and the university community. You'll lead the charge in administering the program, crafting professional development and providing ongoing support to PASS student leaders.  If you're driven to empower students and thrive in a dynamic environment, this is your chance to shape the future of academic support. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Contributing to planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating a university-wide PASS program. 
  • Implementing pedagogies and technologies for interactive, student-centred peer learning. 
  • Recruiting, training, supporting, and supervising PASS leaders for Study Sessions
  • Offering ongoing professional development to enhance PASS leaders' facilitation and leadership. 

Who we are looking for
Are you skilled in peer learning principles and best practices, with experience training and supervising student leaders in higher education? We seek a candidate with a strong background in teaching academic, language, and communication skills to diverse groups, including EAL students. 
 
Your experience in coordinating programs to enhance academic skills and leveraging educational technologies and online platforms is essential. Your knowledge of trends in higher education, particularly peer  learning , is crucial. Excellent interpersonal skills, effective teamwork, and the ability to manage priorities in a dynamic environment are key. Your organisation, detail orientation, commitment to improvement, and innovative problem-solving skills will be highly valued.

You will also have:

  • Degree-level qualifications in education or relevant field, or equivalent experience/training. 
  • Experience training and supervising student leaders or mentors in higher education. 
  • Demonstrated coordination of programs supporting students' academic skill development at the tertiary level. 
  • Proficiency in utilising educational technologies and online platforms for learning resource development. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively, managing priorities in a dynamic environment.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
