Pembroke Resources is an Australian company that owns the Olive Downs Complex, a large-scale world-class steelmaking coal mine located in the Bowen Basin of Queensland. Over $1 billion has been invested in the Complex and operations commenced in June 2023.
The Olive Downs Complex has been built to be a mine of the future, with fully autonomous haulage and drilling implemented from day one, enabling an efficient ramp up to the Stage 1 production level of 6 per annum. It is also setting new standards in embedded ESG practices.
It is an exciting time to join Pembroke, as we finalise the construction of Stage 1 and commence coal production.
As the Environmental Officer at the Olive Downs Complex, you will be supporting the delivery of environmental management plans. Reporting to the Superintendent Environment & Ecology you will work closely with site environmental and operations teams, to ensure Olive Downs meets and exceeds all environmental and social regulatory commitments.
Your responsibilities will span:
Environmental Compliance
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental management systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess environmental performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare environmental reports and documentation for regulatory submissions and internal review.
Environmental Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor air quality, water quality, noise levels, and other environmental parameters to assess potential impacts of mining activities.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data to track trends and identify emerging issues.
- Prepare environmental monitoring reports and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
Waste Management and Pollution Control
- Oversee waste management practices, including the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Implement pollution prevention measures and spill response protocols to minimize environmental risks.
- Coordinate with waste management contractors and regulatory agencies as needed.
Environmental Training and Awareness
- Provide environmental training and guidance to site personnel to promote awareness of environmental risks and responsibilities.
- Support the development of environmental education programs and initiatives for employees and contractors.
- Encourage a culture of environmental stewardship and sustainability throughout the organization.
Environmental Projects and Initiatives
- Support the implementation of environmental improvement projects and initiatives to enhance environmental performance and sustainability.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for innovation and resource efficiency.
- Participate in community engagement activities and environmental stewardship programs to build positive relationships with local communities.
Requisite qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 1-3 years experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining or resource industry.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in environmental data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using ARC GIS desired.
- Experience using Environmental Management systems desired.
