Job description

Pembroke Resources is an Australian company that owns the Olive Downs Complex, a large-scale world-class steelmaking coal mine located in the Bowen Basin of Queensland. Over $1 billion has been invested in the Complex and operations commenced in June 2023.

The Olive Downs Complex has been built to be a mine of the future, with fully autonomous haulage and drilling implemented from day one, enabling an efficient ramp up to the Stage 1 production level of 6 per annum. It is also setting new standards in embedded ESG practices.

It is an exciting time to join Pembroke, as we finalise the construction of Stage 1 and commence coal production.

As the Environmental Officer at the Olive Downs Complex, you will be supporting the delivery of environmental management plans. Reporting to the Superintendent Environment & Ecology you will work closely with site environmental and operations teams, to ensure Olive Downs meets and exceeds all environmental and social regulatory commitments.

Your responsibilities will span:

Environmental Compliance

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental management systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess environmental performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare environmental reports and documentation for regulatory submissions and internal review.

Environmental Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor air quality, water quality, noise levels, and other environmental parameters to assess potential impacts of mining activities.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data to track trends and identify emerging issues.
  • Prepare environmental monitoring reports and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.

Waste Management and Pollution Control

  • Oversee waste management practices, including the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Implement pollution prevention measures and spill response protocols to minimize environmental risks.
  • Coordinate with waste management contractors and regulatory agencies as needed.

Environmental Training and Awareness

  • Provide environmental training and guidance to site personnel to promote awareness of environmental risks and responsibilities.
  • Support the development of environmental education programs and initiatives for employees and contractors.
  • Encourage a culture of environmental stewardship and sustainability throughout the organization.

Environmental Projects and Initiatives

  • Support the implementation of environmental improvement projects and initiatives to enhance environmental performance and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for innovation and resource efficiency.
  • Participate in community engagement activities and environmental stewardship programs to build positive relationships with local communities.

Requisite qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining or resource industry.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in environmental data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using ARC GIS desired.
  • Experience using Environmental Management systems desired.

Personal Attributes:

  • Collaborative and influential.
  • Open communicator with an ability to propose alternative concepts and solutions.
  • High moral standards, honesty, and integrity.
  • Passionate about making a difference in an innovative environment.

You will have the opportunity to be part of a team driving change and be supported in achieving environmental management goals. This is an outstanding opportunity for an environmental professional, or for a recent graduate looking to kick start their career in the industry at the newest steelmaking coal mine in the world. A competitive salary package is on offer.

This is a site-based role.  If you choose to live locally, we offer housing assistance, alternatively we will provide full camp accommodation and flights home each weekend.

If you would like more information or if you believe you have the qualifications, past success and persona to excel in this position please apply directly.
