People Operations Manager

Reporting to the Group General Manager of People & Culture, this role will collaborate with leadership and the wider P&C team to support the business and deliver people outcomes across Head Office.

What is the role?

As a commercially savvy and influential People Operations Manager, this role drives change, influences people outcomes and builds understanding of the right practices across the business and teams. With the bulk of the focus on operational HR across the Head Office – on the ground working with teams, leaders and staff alike to build knowledge, awareness and passion for strong people practices to proactively pre-empt issues; whilst dually addressing cases as they come up.

Bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge, this role leads, mentors and coaches the Business Partnering team in ensuring the business achieves targets, objectives and outcomes through its people. This role works closely with the GGM of People & Culture and wider P&C Leadership team to deliver key strategic projects group wide.

A key contributor to the HR and wider leadership teams, and an ambassador for the HR approach – this role is best suited for an energetic, resilient and influential personality, who understands retail and fast-moving environments, gets the bigger picture and finds satisfaction in genuinely getting to the root of an issue and resolving with honesty, respect, and empathy.

Who are you?

Lead the business partnering team in delivering on all HR caseload across all Head Office brands - including investigations, performance management, misconduct, mental health and preventative consultations etc. to give staff a voice and ensure the right steps take place in a fair, reasonable way; along with ensuring all items that bring elements of risk, sensitivity or have wider knock-on effects are raised to Executive speedily and effectively
Plays key mentee and coach role for People & Culture Business Partners – supporting them with tricky situations that may be new to them, alongside supporting on overflow of workload within broader portfolios
Minimum of 7 years’ experience working at a senior level within an innovative and fast paced HR function and team
Demonstrated experience at leading a team and getting results through effective coaching and guiding of others
Commercial savviness and skill to navigate the fine line of commercial v best practise v compliance
A true HR expert who can bring ideas & innovation, and the courage to give them a go
A true leadership and growth mindset – including ability to see the bigger picture, truly empower teams & make effective collaboration second nature
An assertive, yet empathetic communicator who knows how to adjust the approach depending on the audience to get the best outcome
Proven experience in creating a safe & diverse workplace – where boundaries are clear & individualism is celebrated
Proven experience & genuine passion for coaching, developing teams & individuals
Knowledge of the GRIA, SSWA or similar industry awards
Demonstrated experience in managing strong well being and mental health initiatives
Strong organisational skills
Ability to produce highly professional work – reporting, file notes, email and communications, presentations, slides etc
Passionate, driven and excited about the everchanging HR environment
