Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA)

With an exciting pipeline of future work for the Australian Defence Force at the Henderson Shipyard, now is the time to join us to be a part of some meaningful work in a dynamic and outcome focussed environment.

We are on our path towards becoming the Commonwealths “Strategic Shipbuilder” in the West, aiming to be in contract for the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA). Join us for this exciting opportunity to be part of continuous naval shipbuilding, contributing and significant work for the Australian Defence Force.

The SSA will establish an overarching program which enables the design and build of vessels at the Henderson Shipyard. The objective of the SSA is to possess the capacity and capability to initially deliver Landing Craft Medium & Heavy for the Australian Army in supporting continuous naval shipbuilding in WA.

The SSA is about establishing the capability within the Henderson Precinct, and Western Australia, to continuously build vessels for the Commonwealth. It will be led by Austal, and will require the engagement of local industry, supply chain and workforce to be successful.

About the Opportunity

The Planner Scheduler is a key position within the Programs team, ‘delivering together’. You’ll be responsible for generating and maintaining Engineering and Production schedules for the Project Management Office (PMO) using Primavera and other ERP Integrated systems. This is ordered to add net value to Austal by efficient project execution using effective Planning and Scheduling.

  • Develop and integrate schedules using P6 and ERP software for project scope management and reporting.
  • Maintain and update current and baseline schedules; monitor and analyse project budget, performance, forecasts, and resource needs.
  • Track and analyse Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including CPI, SPI, and EAC.
  • Review and validate project schedules to ensure compliance with the Critical Path Method (CPM).
  • Support administrative tasks related to Primavera software.
  • Review and adjust remaining project hours as needed.
  • Analyse project milestones to ensure alignment with the plan.
  • Implement and manage global changes within the scheduling software.
  • Demonstrate initiative and ensure high-quality results by thoroughly checking your work.
  • Set up various types of schedules, including engineering, production, and contract master schedules, using Primavera and IFS ERP software, and apply Earned Value Management System (EVMS) principles in collaboration with project and production teams.

Skills and Experiences

Essential Skills and Experiences

  • Hold a Construction safety induction (white card).
  • Fully P6 literate, 2 years Minimum working in lead scheduling role.
  • Able to interact and communicate positively and professionally.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Proficient PC skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and outlook.
  • ERP experience, ideally using IFS.

Desirable Skills and Experiences

  • Minimum certificate 101, 102, 106P – Primavera Courses
  • Formal Planning training
  • 5 Years’ experience in a Planning role in Shipbuilding, complex manufacturing, or construction.
  • Engineering qualification, Mechanical or equivalent (Cert IV)
  • Security Clearance

Due to the Security Clearance required for this position, applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
