Plant Metallurgist
Group 6 Metals commissioned the Dolphin Tungsten Open Pit Mine in mid-2023 and is currently progressing production ramp-up. We are looking for a Plant Metallurgist to join our processing team. This position is full-time and based on King Island at the Dolphin Tungsten Mine at Grassy.
Roster – FIFO 9/5 from Melbourne, Burnie, or Launceston

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate safety and environmental leadership and contribute to plant safety continuous improvement programs.
- Daily monitoring and management of plant operating parameters, equipment performance, production recoveries and efficiencies.
- Metallurgical data management and completing metal accounting.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing daily, weekly, and monthly plant production and metallurgy reports for distribution.
- Assist with hands-on plant operation as required. May be called on to perform shift operations work for short periods when crew coverage is needed.
- Develop and perform metallurgical test work programmes.
- Liaise with other departments for provision of maintenance and other services.
- Assist in managing and training plant and laboratory personnel.
- Complete routine reagent and consumables inventory stock takes in conjunction with the Commercial Department
- Follow directions and instructions provided by supervising staff.
Job Requirements
- At least one year of graduate experience in the mining industry
- Prior exposure to crushing, gravity concentration and flotation, filter, drying and magnetic separation unit operations and plant operations an advantage.
- Demonstrated understanding of plant sampling and production measurements including laboratory QA/QC as related to metal accounting.
- Tertiary qualifications in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong written and oral communication skills and experience with report writing.
- Well-developed skills in Excel spreadsheet development and management
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced problem-solving skills in conceptual scenarios.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible (sometimes irregular) hours.
