About the roleThe Podiatrist provides escalated care for clients with a clinical need for podiatry care in the Hospital Avoidance setting. These patients are generally unable to access the services they need in the community and would otherwise be on the trajectory to needing hospital services.The position works as part of the multidisciplinary CALHN Integrated Care team, providing services to a range of vulnerable patient cohorts including Indigenous people, newly arrived refugees, people experiencing homelessness and people with complex co morbidities or chronic conditions.The podiatrist role embraces and embeds Integrated Care service innovations and new technologies, including virtual care initiatives.The Podiatrist undertakes direct clinical care with the aim of preventing unnecessary hospital admissions by providing early intervention. This position ensures compliance with safety and quality standards due to the complexity and risk profile of this client group.The role supports planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of podiatry services by:
- Providing high quality podiatry services which meets the needs of the patient, optimises care out of hospital and effectively escalates to hospital specialist services for high risk patients.
- Participating in projects and initiatives as a member of a dynamic multidisciplinary team
- Developing, implementing and reviewing podiatry service goals, objectives, policies and procedures
- Supporting the team with professional advice
QualificationsAppropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which entitles registration with the Podiatry Board of Australia.
