Our client is seeking to engage a Policy Advisor Public Health.
Location: Canberra, ACT
Contract Length: Permanent, Full time
Eligibility/Security Requirement: Applicants must be Australian Citizens.
The role:
Broadly, the Policy Adviser will provide policy advice and undertake a range of tasks in respect of the issues managed by the team on population and community health issues. This includes but not limited to: impacts of climate change on the health of Australians, sustainable healthcare practices, preventative health, inclusive of anti-microbial resistance, preventive health, children and women's health, nutrition and obesity food regulations, alcohol & other drugs, tobacco and e-cigarettes, medicinal cannabis and, LGBTQIA+ health. Underpinning many of the issues in Public Health is mental health. and domestic violence.
Responsibilities:
The Policy Adviser will work to the Manager, Public Health Policy.
The Policy Adviser will:

• Support the Manager to provide policy and strategic advice to the Agency's President and other key stakeholders on Public Health policy matters.
• Support the Manager and other team members, in providing secretariat support to Committees or Taskforces that are assigned to the Public Health Team. This includes assisting with scheduling meetings and forums, setting agendas, managing member attendance, preparing meeting papers and minutes, and undertaking follow-up action.
• Develop evidence-based policy positions for the Agency in assigned portfolio areas as required.
• Prepare written materials on behalf of the Agency such as position statements, submissions, input for speeches, media content, and briefings.
• Respond to written and verbal enquiries from the Agency members, the public and other organisations.
• Actively contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organisation by working collegiately across the Federal Secretariat and with State and Territory Agency offices.
• Undertake other projects, outside the roles and responsibilities outlined above, as requested by the Manager.
• Contribute to the success of the Public Health Policy Team through actively engaging in policy development, sharing ideas and seeking to build new stakeholder relationships to support the Agency's aims and objectives.

Selection criteria:

• Experience in health-related policy development and secretariat support.
• Experience in Public Health is highly regarded, together with an ability to work sensitively and effectively with peoples from representative groups.
• An understanding of, and interest in, Australia's health system and Public Health issues.
• Strong research, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent writing skills and ability to communicate and engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a common understanding of information, issues, and concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, as well as initiative and deliver high quality work within allocated timeframes.
• Digital literacy relevant to all aspects of office IT systems and the ability to work effectively remotely as required.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience.

Remuneration and benefits:

• Superannuation: 11%
• Hybrid work roster: majority of days in office, balance WFH
