Senior Public Policy Advisor

Based in either Melbourne or Canberra, we are currently recruiting a Senior Public Policy Advisor to help protect and advance the Firm's interests in policy, legislative and regulatory matters with domestic and global policymakers and regulators.

The role will also assist Executive teams and global stakeholders track, monitor and formulate the development of the Firm's policy positions on key reforms affecting investors and the business.

With primary responsibility for directing and leading the Firm's political engagement strategy, this will include:

• Advancing the interests of the Firm and its clients with policymakers and regulators, acting as an effective ambassador for key policy positions on matters including (but not limited) to Financial Advice, Cyber Security, AI, Data & Governance, Tax, ESG, Retirement etc.
• Political engagement - developing and deepening relationships with policymakers, regulators and their staff.  This includes strategic engagement with appropriate coalitions, trade associations, external stakeholders, consultants, peers and others.
• Undertaking political, legislative and regulatory analysis. Develop responses to consultation papers, Government reviews and industry body submissions
• Providing high quality verbal and written reports on issues and activities relevant to coverage areas for leadership teams and Boards.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand their business interests relating to political, legislative and regulatory developments. 
• Work closely with Head of Public Policy, Executive leadership teams and external Public Policy consultants to develop and execute strategic objectives.

• Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of related experience in Public Policy, government relations, political advisory, regulator/engagement with deep relationships with relevant areas in federal government and political parties preferred.
• Excellent political acumen and detailed understanding of policymaking and Parliamentary processes.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills that command the respect of business partners, leaders and external stakeholders.
• An ability to effectively engage with and influence members of different political parties.
• Very strong critical thinking, analytical skills and ability to grasp complex issues; collaborative approach.
• Demonstrated ability to function in a deadline oriented, fast paced and rapidly changing environment. Effectively handles multiple priorities and initiatives.
• Intellectually attuned to financial services issues. Strong knowledge of financial services industry preferred.
