Your day as a Policy and Project Officer

As a Policy and Project Officer, you will support Government investment decisions and risk management in the development and delivery of projects and programs in order to successfully achieve outcomes.

You will support the control processes and tracking of annual appropriation throughout the year and play an active role in the development of the Annual Appropriation Bill. This role also supports Gateway Review managers to coordinate Recurrent Expenditure Assurance Framework related gateway meetings, projects and associated reporting activities.

You will also have the opportunity to support Gateway policies, frameworks, procedures, process documents and the development of systems support.

Achieve success as a Policy and Project Officer

In this integral role there are a few things we would like for you to have to best support yourself and add value to the people of NSW. 

You will be successful in this role if you have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Public Policy, Law, Commerce, Accounting, Finance or related discipline 
  • Project management skills and experience coordinating and delivering projects within highly regulated and confidential environments
  • Excellent communication skills to clearly and concisely convey technical and complex information and analysis in plain English (including verbal, written and visual) appropriate to the audience and its purpose 
  • Advanced Excel modelling skills (bottom-up modelling experience is highly valued)
  • Broad understanding of the public sector environment, the policy process and relevant statutory requirements in particular NSW Government Gateway Assurance Policy and Frameworks and NSW Appropriations Framework 
  • Ability to speak up, contribute ideas and commitment to continuous improvement 
  • Experience or knowledge in periodic financial and non-financial reporting 
  • Salesforce, Prime, and Tableau (or equivalent) experience 
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive culture and encouraging diversity of thought 
  • Adaptable with ability to manage changing and conflicting priorities
