Job description

Carnival Australia is excited to announce: We are hiring a Port Agent to join our Port Operations Team. This full-time permanent position will be based in the Chatswood district of Sydney and report directly to the Port Agency Manager. This exciting and fast paced position will provide an efficient, timely and cost-effective port agency service for all Carnival Group vessels within Sydney. This includes, facilitating statutory requirements (Customs, Quarantine, Immigration), Port Authority approvals as well as all other arrangements for the arrival and departure of the ships in port - plus lots more to bring our ships safely in and out of Sydney!

Your key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and process pre and post-cruise documentation for assigned port calls, including weekend administrative duties on a rotational basis.
  • Schedule vessel arrivals and departures, as well as coordinate other necessary port services, such as pilotage, tug assistance, and line handling.
  • Organize logistics related to the delivery of supplies, luggage handling, fueling, garbage collection, crew rotations, and other essential tasks.
  • Maintain relationships with Sydney service providers, including tug operators, pilots, and stevedores, as well as with port authorities and government agencies like Customs, Immigration, Quarantine, and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
  • Ensure all accounting procedures, call reporting, analysis, and other miscellaneous tasks related to port calls are completed accurately and promptly.

About You:

As a highly motivated individual with a deep passion for the industry, you possess strong organizational skills and excel in managing competing priorities. Your results-driven approach, combined with resilience, makes you a valuable asset in any dynamic environment. You are a self-starter, adept at communicating confidently and collaborating effectively with others to ensure timely completion of projects. The cruise line industry is a 24/7 operation involving a mix of office and port work, necessitating flexibility, including out-of-hours and weekend work. Being part of a collaborative team, your outgoing personality and willingness to work hard will distinguish you from other candidates.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Prior experience in a similar role, or in Shipping/Fleet or Port Operations.
  • Knowledge of Cruise Ship or Travel, or a genuine interest in pursuing a career in this industry.
  • Excellent organizational and planning abilities, including the capacity to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Capability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong administration and accuracy skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using a computer with intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word and Excel).
  • Possession of a valid Australian NSW driver's license.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular office hours (Cruising is a 24/7 operation).
  • Willingness to commit to a rotating weekend roster (once every 6 weeks) and work during the peak season (October – April).
