  • Full-time, 2 years 6 months years fixed term with a base salary from $122,830 plus leave loading and 17% superannuation

Our research group is dedicated to advancing healthcare through cutting-edge research and innovation. Our mission is to improve the accuracy and efficiency of early breast cancer detection using state-of-the-art Medical Imaging technologies. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Scientist to join our dynamic team and contribute to groundbreaking research in this critical field. Our program will foster network connections both nationally and internationally, to better understand and improve screening outcomes in breast cancer diagnosis.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • engage in research either independently or as part of a research team

  • expertise in research methodologies, design and delivery to contribute to the University's standing as a national leader in the discipline

  • bring and maintain a research profile which meets University expectations and standards – including (as appropriate) publication of book chapters/ peer-reviewed journal articles, producing conference/ seminar papers – either independently or as part of a team

  • maintain an understanding of the University’s strategic agenda and contributes to furthering that agenda

  • provide training to other academic staff on research skills

  • engage in research evaluation and in the assessment of their own research practice

  • literature review report writing and ethics applications

  • prepare and contribute to grant applications and submissions

  • supervise postgraduate and honours research students

  • co-ordinate various administrative tasks associated with research projects. 

  • have machine learning and programming skills to design and develop image analytic applications based on project needs – will be an advantage

About you:

  • completed a Ph.D.in Medical Imaging or in a relevant discipline (Health Sciences, Medicine, Medical Physics, Biomedicalor ComputingEngineering) alongside at least 1 Postdoc position prior or at least 1 year work experience post PhD is preferred

  • background in Medical imaging and breast imaging would be preferred -other engineering background would be considered too with a demonstrated experience in working with medical diagnostic images

  • demonstrated experience or knowledge in the following:

    • working effectively with a variety of experts in different fields (e.g., radiologists, radiographers, radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, physicists, engineers, clinicians etc) from the world’s leading academic institutions

    • working with MRI scanners, Digital Mammography, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis, PET, X-ray equipment, linear accelerators or other scientific/medical devices

  • a peer-reviewed publication track record that places emphasis on quality publications relative to the opportunity and/or experience with clinical trial protocol development.

  • demonstrated scientific creativity and innovation/discovery

  • outstanding interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment.
