The team partners reef ecologists at UQ with researchers at the University of the Philippines, the Palau International Coral Reef Center, and the University of Newcastle (UK). Specifically, we are developing intervention strategies, including restoration, that help Coral Reefs adapt to climate change and in a range of ecological environments.The position is based at UQ but will involve field travel to Palau and potentially the Philippines. Specific activities include both field studies to measure key ecological processes as well as the use of an existing ecological model to simulate alternative management strategies. The project will have practical benefits for Reef Restoration but also contribute to a broader theoretical agenda on how to construct complementary management approaches to maximise the future trajectory of corals.Key responsibilities will include:ResearchParticipating in field studies of Coral Reef ecological processesRunning and extending the parameterisation of our ecological model, ReefmodAnalysing data and writing papersCollaborating with project researchersAssisting with project reportingCommunication of project resultsSupervision and Researcher DevelopmentContribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and the management of researcher development.Working to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedures.This is a research focused position. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $77,324.85- $102,945.12, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,470.08 - $120,445.79 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.The greater of joining the UQ community are broad: from being part of a university, to recognition of prior service with other Australian universities, up to 26 weeks of paid parental leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, flexible working arrangements including hybrid on site/WFH options and flexible start/finish times, and genuine career progression opportunities via the academic promotions process.About YouCompletion or near completion of a PhD in marine science, ideally from Coral ReefsDemonstrated quantitative skills that include the use of coding to manipulate and analyse dataStrong computing skills that ideally include matlab and/or R.Use of statistical models.Excellent written and statistical skillsA familiarity with marine conservation and Coral Reefs would be an advantage but is not mandatoryIn addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
