Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is seeking an opportunity to work within the Community Safety Department of Melton City Council.
This position will report directly to the team leader of Pound Services and provide assistance to the Pound Services Team Leader in the day to day operation of our pound facility in accordance with relevant legislation and codes of practice in conjunction with Council’s policies and procedures. The successful applicant will be responsible to carry out all duties associated with our pound facility three hours per day, both Saturday and Sunday.
This role will be responsible for contributing toward a strong positive culture within the Pound Services team and greater Melton City Council.
Key Responsibilities
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Ensure all legislative requirements and relevant Codes of Practice are adhered to. (For the purposes of the ‘Code of Practice for the Management of Shelters.
- Responsible for the health and wellbeing of all impounded animals including relevant recommendations/assessments of animals as required.
- Provide training and guidance to Animal Attendants and Contractors as required.
- Establish and maintain processes to encourage re-homing of impounded animals through animal rescues/shelters.
- Provide and oversee ‘day to day’ cashiering functions including the receipting and balancing of monies.
- Respond to a range of queries/complaints relating to animals.
About you
To be successful in this role you must have the ability to undertake the following:
- Considerable knowledge of relevant Codes of Practice and legislation relating to Domestic Animals and livestock.
- Animal handling in accordance with current workplace practices and requirements.
- Display a sense of compassion, empathy and understanding toward animal matters as they arise.
- Work effectively as a member of the Pound Services Unit to achieve its’ unit objectives.
- Must have a current working with children check.
- The successful applicant must be able to display relevant experience or qualifications applicable to the role.
