The Role
The purpose of The Presenter, Senior Producer & Indigenous Lead (NITV News) will play a central role in our team, working with the Senior INACA Editorial leadership team to shape the daily editorial of our news and current affairs coverage across our television and digital platforms. This is a senior role and you may be responsible for managing and developing more junior staff and taking on managerial responsibilities.
Reporting into the Head of Indigenous News and Current Affairs within our Indigenous News and Current Affairs team this role will see you:
- As a member of the NITV News on-air team, present NITV News bulletins and updates on a rostered basis, ensuring the highest professional standards of presentation, to ensure NITV retains its reputation as a credible and trusted source of news and information for First Nations communities.
- Undertake other on-air presenting roles as required (Nula, The Point or INACA specials)
- Write and sub-edit intros, live voice overs, live reads, updates, weather, teases, playoffs and promos for NITV News bulletins as required
- Conduct interviews in studio or in the field as required
- Representing NITV News externally at industry and Indigenous community events and engaging with communities and the media as required
- Provide Indigenous Editorial leadership, perspectives and guidance on NITV News output, including providing ‘cultural sense’ checks on all NITV News scripts, video and audio before they go to air, ensuring tone and language is culturally safe for Indigenous audiences
- Plan, prepare, assess, research, write, edit and produce high quality news and feature stories for TV, Online and other platforms as required, ensuring Indigenous voices, viewpoints, analysis and perspectives are centred
It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are fully vaccinated with an approved Covid-19 vaccination in line with the ATAGI guidelines which include booster shots. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you.
About you
- Journalism and production skills
- Extensive experience as a journalist or producer
- Deep understanding of topics and issues of importance to First Nations people and communities, from a current and historical perspective
- Experience in an Indigenous editorial leadership role, including an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural protocols, especially as they relate to news/media
- Excellent community contacts and strong long standing relationships in Indigenous communities, including an understanding of who has cultural authority to speak on certain issues
