Job description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section) is committed to providing excellence in and access to Primary Health Care (PHC) and Aeromedical services across QLD. PHC is now one of our most vital services, accounting for up to two-thirds of our daily operations, as prevention is essential to improved health outcomes for those living in the bush.

We are seeking a Primary Health Care Nurse (Midwife) who is passionate about their important role in providing Primary Health Care services to people residing, travelling, and working in regional, rural, and remote areas of Queensland. As a PHC Nurse (Midwifery), you have the opportunity to make a real impact in promoting good health, providing proactive care, and keeping people healthy.

The RFDS (Queensland Section) is currently in search of a devoted and empathetic PHC Nurse (Midwifery) to become part of the RFDS Charleville team. This position involves delivering essential PHC services to communities in the South and Central West regions. As part of your support for local communities, you will provide:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services
  • Early Childhood and family health services
  • Antenatal Care
  • Women’s health services
  • Chronic disease care and support
  • Health Promotion and Health education activities
  • Early detection and brief intervention programs

It is important to note that this position is 0.5 FTE and will be a maximum-term contract for 12 months.

  • A Respectful understanding of cultural diversity including traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of health

Essential Skills (Can be obtained after starting employment)
  • Current Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal advanced resuscitation certification

Why join RFDS Charleville Base?

In outback Queensland, the locals are friendly and warm, so you will feel right at home when you join the team. Taking a walk along the Warrego River, watching wildlife, and chasing down the best outback steak are just some of the things to do in Charleville. The south-west pocket offers adventure beyond Charleville - hike Carnarvon Gorge, attend Australia's biggest cattle auction in Roma or soak in a mineral-rich artesian mud bath in Eulo.

In addition to settling down in our idyllic community, you will also become a member of our team of specialists who work on the frontline. You will be able to utilise all the skills that you have acquired through your hard work to make a difference in people's everyday lives by providing vital Primary Healthcare. By joining the RFDS (Queensland Section), you will receive:
