As a member of the Fortescue Energy team, you will be at the forefront of the fight against climate change. You will play a key role in shaping a sustainable future by working with a dynamic and exciting global Finance team. In this role you will be responsible for the business partnering and project accounting activities of Fortescue's Science & Technology business unit. To be successful in this role, you will need to be a quick but critical thinker, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the month-end financial statement close (FSC) process for the Science & Technology business unit, by maintaining value of work done (VOWD), accruals calculations, journal entries and accurate forecast variance commentary.
- Coordinate quarterly and annual operating plan and financial budgets, by applying rigour to budget assumptions and ensuring forecasts maintained within reporting systems are accurately maintained.
- Partner closely with Science & Technology Business Unit Leadership team, to provide insightful analytical information, that monitors financial performance.
- Provide commercial support to the Science & Technology Business Unit Leadership team on new technology opportunities and developments.
- Assist with establishing processes for new technology hubs in foreign jurisdictions.
- Liaise and collaborate with members of the contracts & procurement, planning and project management team, to maintain a strong cost control environment.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting data in accordance with Group Accounting Policies under IFRS, by helping to draft of accounting position papers, guided by the Financial Controller.
- Assist in the full and half year audit process, by answering audit queries as directed.
- Assist in maintaining an efficient system of internal controls over finance-related processes.
- Identify and deliver process improvement initiatives.
- Manage one direct report and actively promote a safe working environment.
- 7-10 years relevant post-qualification experience, ideally with experience gained in a technology start-up environment.
- Strong IFRS proficiency, capable of recognising, researching, documenting & communicating complex accounting issues.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines with a high degree of autonomy and flexibility.
- Good working knowledge of enterprise financial planning and reporting systems, such as SAP, Anaplan, PIMS, Catchment and Power BI experience highly desirable.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- CA or CPA qualified.
