About the role
AEMO's WA Operations department is responsible for the real-time operation of the South-West Interconnected System (SWIS) and the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM), which supply electricity to the South-West of WA.
As part of the WA Prudentials & Settlements team, contribute to the successful operation, settlement and ongoing development of WA’s Wholesale Electricity Market in accordance with the WEM Rules. The role is fast-paced and operationally focused, with time sensitive tasks and frequent stakeholder engagement in a supportive team environment. You will receive broad exposure to how our markets and systems work and gain a deeper understanding of their intricacies and complexities.

What you will be doing
- Provide guidance and oversight to a team of analysts to manage settlement inputs including meter data, calculate settlement outcomes, settle the WEM, monitor prudential risks, and identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Drive continuous improvement within the team and contribute to the ongoing development and training of team members
- Support the delivery of WEM settlement IT systems to enable the implementation of WEM reform projects, rule changes, and system improvements
- Provide expert advice to WEM settlement-related rule changes, reforms, business process improvements, and procurement activities
- Undertake complex analysis of market data to support reporting and decision-making
- Communicate analytical insights to a broad audience of internal and external stakeholders
What you will bring to the role
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Economics, Engineering or Finance
- 5+ years of experience in the energy industry in commercial, market body, or governmental department
- Strong understanding of the WEM and WEM Rules, especially with respect to settlement
- Ability to lead small-to-medium teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (including Microsoft Excel and SQL), with the ability to effectively communicate results, develop recommendations, and implement changes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical and regulatory issues to audiences with a broad range of backgrounds
- Able to build and maintain constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- A successful candidate for the Principal Analyst role will have demonstrable experience across a broad range of sectors or disciplines within the energy industry
- Experience in IT development projects will be well regarded but not required
- Advanced quantitative analysis skills (such as VBA, PowerBI, Python, R, etc) or experience in IT development projects will be highly regarded but not required
