About Government Partnerships and Policy

Government Partnerships and Policy support’s UQ’s engagement with all levels of government on the topics and opportunities relevant to government and the University. It works across the University to deliver a coordinated approach to government partnerships that responds to the needs and priorities of government.

About This Opportunity

The Principal Advisor, Government Relations plays a crucial role in enhancing the University’s government engagement initiatives and outcomes.

You will provide administrative support and coordination with government-related activities, manage high priority projects and ensure effective communication between the University and government entities.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Support Government Partnerships and Policy to deliver the University’s strategy to deliver demand driven government partnerships.

  • Prepare comprehensive briefing documents for government officials and UQ executive stakeholders, adhering to governmental protocols and processes.

  • Manage invitations to government dignitaries, oversee RSVPs, and ensure UQ representation at relevant engagements while collaborating closely with the Events team to ensure seamless coordination of events involving government representatives.

  • Maintain accurate databases of contacts and government officials, facilitating efficient communication channels.

  • Conduct research on parliamentary inquiries and external monitoring activities, maintaining relevant systems and databases and providing expert advice to internal stakeholders on UQ's Government Relations protocols and best practices.

This is a full-time, permanent position.

At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range 96,649.64 - $105,244.58, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17% and market loading. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080.08 - $123,136.15 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You
  • An undergraduate degree in project management, business, international education or another related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in Government Relations or public affairs.

  • Experience and knowledge of government processes and policies.

  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, community representatives and other relevant parties.

  • High level research and analytical skills with the ability to be adept at assessing complex situations, understanding policy implications and identifying strategic opportunities.

  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills to support the engagement with government.

  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload, prioritise competing tasks and meet deadlines.
