Apply knowledge and skill in claims management to manage a diverse range of Common Law personal injury claims arising from the negligent driving of unidentified and/or uninsured motor vehicles.
Utilising best practice standards, you will be responsible for management of the claims allocated from the initial assessment and investigation of the claim to negotiation and settlement.
You will use mediation, legal representation and court processes to determine appropriate liability and quantum payments of claims and the provision of rehabilitation services to injured parties.
In this role, you will:

  • Applying best practice principles, manage a portfolio of complex and/or catastrophic claims - approving rehabilitation plans, instructing complex liability investigations while providing professional and cost-effective claims service.
  • Undertake reviews of submissions provided by claims staff regarding liability, assessment of quantum and recommendations for future conduct and approve within financial relevant financial delegation.
  • Provide technical advice on specific and industry issues relating to claim matters, including common law liability and specific issues relevant to CTP claims.
  • Negotiate appropriate direct settlement of claims with the claimant or solicitors acting for the claimant and approve settlements, legal and other expenses in accordance with delegations. This includes attendance at compulsory conferences and/or mediations.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the team, ensuring the adequate allocation of resources to achieve required outcomes.
  • Conduct one to one coaching and mentoring of claims staff including the communication of key performance indicators and compliance with legislative requirements. As well as provide training and onboarding to new team members.
  • Work in collaboration with the leadership team in the review, development and implementation of claims policies, procedures and guides.
  • Assist management in the monitoring of service provider performance and attend quarterly meetings to provide feedback.
  • Present at internal presentations to the wider Insurance Commission on the functions and performance of the Nominal Defendant.
  • Provide support to the Manager, Nominal Defendant Claims as required and actively participate in project and other activities as directed.
What experience you will bring:
  • experience in proactively managing a portfolio of claims under the Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994, in particular catastrophic claims, utilising best practice claims standards
  • high level communication skills, ability to build rapport, communicate complex information, and negotiate with a variety of stakeholders
  • strong time management skills to manage a range of competing priorities effectively and independently
  • demonstrated experience in supervising a team beneficial
