We have an exciting opportunity in our Clinical Application Services Team, for a Principal Database Engineer.

The Clinical Application Services Team delivers mission critical systems which clinicians across NSW Health rely on to provide 24 x 7 critical care. Reporting to a Senior Capability Manager for the Epic Systems electronic Medical Record (eMR) system hosting. A key aspect of the role will be to contribute to a team supporting the core technology infrastructure for our Epic Systems eMR, with a focus on the Operational and Reporting Database tier, which is the foundation application for the Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) program. SDPR will provide a secure, holistic, and integrated view of the care a patient receives across the NSW Health system, enabling clinicians to access a patient's medical information in real time from a single source.

Extensive training and certification will be provided for Epic's Operational and Reporting databases.

Health Manager Level, commencing salary from $161,042– $180,143per annum plus 11% superannuation and annual leave loading.

What you will do

Your team will support the core technology infrastructure for SDPR by:

  • Taking accountability for the design, implementation, and operations of hosting the Epic software solution on the Amazon Web Services Public Cloud platform.
  • Highlight any specific projects or initiatives the role will be involved in
  • Aligning team practices with eHealth NSW’s Service Delivery Operating Model.

You will:

  • Lead the design, innovation and management of the SDPR Operational and reporting databases to ensure changes and queries are addressed with the organisational strategy and customer in mind.
  • Possess extensive Linux and shell scripting skills, and collaborate with cloud engineers, implementing best practices for Amazon Web Services to leverage automation toolsets for deployment and ongoing system monitoring.
  • Proficient database administrator skills for RDBMS platforms.
  • Design a scalable, secure database architecture aligned with electronic Medical Record’s needs and compliance standards.
  • Implement and configure the databases, integrating backup mechanisms and optimising performance.
  • Continuously monitor and tune the databases, ensuring data integrity, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders including platform and product owners, solution architects, engineers, project team members and SME’s from our partners AWS and Epic.

About you

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals with:

  • Superior experience in leading the solution, design, build and operations of large and complex databases on public cloud platforms in a shared services environment.
  • Superior experience in the strategic design, planning, development, and setup of performance monitoring metrics for database and middleware including performance reporting to ensure environments are operated according to SLAs.
  • Superior experience in the design, planning, and implementation of complex or large-scale software changes, upgrades and automated procedures to improve operational capability and provide self service capabilities.
