About the job

Elevate your career by seizing the dynamic leadership opportunity to provide technical expertise and guidance within the SA Water's Dams engineering discipline team. As the Principal Engineer - Dams, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing high-level technical investigations, designs and governance procedures related to water and wastewater standards and infrastructure. Your responsibilities will extend to ensuring the success of SA Water projects by maintaining strict adherence to time and budget constraints, offering specialist design, and providing technical governance for optimal outcomes.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

• Provide specialist design and technical governance for SA Water Dams projects to meet time and budget constraints.
• Lead and provide governance in SA Water Dams safety review and upgrade program to deliver safe and successful outcomes in accordance with ANCOLD requirements.
• Provide timely, accurate, appropriate, and adequate information and documentation to customers, with a focus on minimising delays and providing cost effective solutions.
• Determine suitability of new and emerging technologies and recommend they are adopted by the Corporation where benefits are identified.
• Work effectively within the Dams engineering discipline team, with other technical disciplines and their Principal Engineers and across multi-disciplinary teams from our technical partners.
• Lead the review and update of SA Water’s technical standards and guidelines for Dams engineering aspects of SA Water infrastructure.
• Ensure SA Water’s technical standards and guidelines provide best for business solutions while providing cost effective, fit for purpose outcomes.
• Drive an increased awareness in the Safety in Design SiD) process through coordination of an effective SiD consultation and delivery plan with resources from Asset Management, Program/Project Management, WHS, Operations, Design and Construction to achieve safe design outcomes.

Your success in this role will come from:

• Tertiary qualifications in Tertiary Dams, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering qualification
• Post graduate qualifications
• Extensive experience in the provision of investigation, option, concept, and detailed design of Dam infrastructure associated with the water industry (including both concrete and earthen dams) at a high professional level, and auditing of designs prepared by others
• Extensive experience in the practical application of ANCOLD guidelines, and risk management of dam safety projects.
• Demonstrated experience in the execution of novel, complex and critical engineering investigations, and designs in the Dams discipline.
• Experience in the development and ongoing review of technical and infrastructure standards
• Affiliation and Recognition of discipline expertise by Engineers Australia is desirable but not essential
• Detailed knowledge of Dams engineering procedures and practices as applied to the water industry and large engineering organisations and leading expert function as SMS is desirable but not essential
