Within John Holland's national Technology Engineering and Knowledge (TEK) Group sits our Geotechnical Team, comprised of subject matter experts who work closely with the various business units to provide technical support, mitigate risk and develop innovative solutions in order to win and deliver safe and commercially successful projects.
We are currently looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to join the team in the key role of Principal Engineer - Geotechnical. This role will work in partnership with the TEK Geotechnical Group Manager and other team members to enable the Geotechnical (GeoTEK) Group to support John Holland Group projects.
This position can be located out of Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne, and some travel is required.
About the Role
- Collaborate and support John Holland Group (JHG) in all stages of project delivery life cycle (from EOI to post construction) by identifying key risks and opportunities, risk mitigation strategy, and opportunities realisation across all the industry sectors in JHG (Infrastructure, Rail, Building and Energy).
- Independent assessment of geotechnical risk profile and provision of options for risk mitigation As part of optimisation and opportunities realisation, provision of independent analysis, interpretation or challenge is also part of the key tasks.
- Lead a number of task delivery teams within GeoTEK to deliver the support to JH tenders and projects that may involve on-site works and office based works. The site work may require visits to both urban or rural Australian settings.
- Mentor, teach and share information within GeoTEK team members, TEK broader group or the broader JHG team regarding Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology.
- Actively participate and contribute to strategy and management of GeoTEK group, in partnership with the GeoTEK Group Manager.
- Contribute and collaborate within GeoTEK or other teams in JH for real innovations in the geotechnical space.
About You:
This position requires you to hold a Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or Geology from an institute recognised by Engineers Australia. A Post-Graduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering (or related field) is highly desirable. You will hold Membership with Engineers Australia and be actively working towards Engineers Australia Chartered Status.
You will demonstrate:
- Extensive background in producing high quality technical outputs related to various aspects associated with geotechnical works, i.e., site investigation planning to defect rectification works
- Exposure to all aspects of geotechnical site work and laboratory work
- Proven experience in the use and application of various relevant Australian Standards and industry requirements
- Ability to interpret factual data and translate the data to a working model
- Proficiency in a number of geotechnical software packages that cover Limit Equilibrium methods, FEM and foundation packages. A strong technical foundation in analytical/simplified solutions is expected to form the basis of this proficiency
- Understanding of varied construction methodologies and techniques related to Civil disciplines and Building structures
- Industry contribution, i.e., published papers or other contribution, on a specific geotechnical aspect/topic (e.g., pile foundation)
You bring with you a flexible and team-centric attitude, along with a high level of motivation to learn and adapt to a variety of challenges that extend beyond the technical. You have demonstrated leadership capability with experience in mentoring less experienced Geotechnical Engineers.
Your excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders will see you succeed in this role.
