We're looking for a Principal Backend Software Engineer to join the Control Plane team within Atlassian's Transactional Data Platform org. This is a recently formed team, and you will join as a technical lead, responsible for driving multiple large streams of work to deliver a unified control plane for all data plane services. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager for the Control Plane team.

In this role, you will:
Act as a technical lead for the team, responsible for setting technical direction that fulfils on our org-level and company level business priorities
Work across multiple streams within the team, as well as collaborate with peers in other teams across the org and Atlassian
Establish strong operational muscle within the team, and set a standard for our Atlassian value of Don't F the Customer
Contribute to features, project delivery, and go on-call for the team's services
Guide and mentor more junior engineers
Contribute toward a culture of trust and high performance
Your background:
10+ years experience in multiple hands-on software/technology leadership roles, with end-to-end responsibility through the software development lifecycle.
Expertise with one or more prominent languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala is required.
Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS industry with hands-on experience with public cloud offerings (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Experience building reliable services at scale
Experience building operational maturity in a team
Practice in mentoring other engineers and influencing decision makers throughout the organization.
Considers the customer impact when making technical decisions.
Compensation
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable and explainable compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience.
In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $Min - $TA Max ((<-- Recruiter to insert))
Zone B: $Min - $TA Max ((<-- Recruiter to insert))
Zone C: $Min - $TA Max ((<-- Recruiter to insert))
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
