There are exciting medical officer roles available in the Public and Aboriginal Health Division (PAHD), with opportunities to be a part of one of two public health teams. The PAHD is committed to protecting and promoting the health of the WA population by applying primary preventive measures, promoting healthy behaviours and environments and intervening to reduce hazards to health. We take a population wide approach and develop, coordinate and deliver a wide range of statewide public health policies and programs.
This is a recruitment pool for permanent and fixed term, full time and part time opportunities over the life of the pool, with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.
Position Profile:
The PAHD is looking for talented and enthusiastic Medical Officers with strong backgrounds in Public Health Medicine. The pool will be used to fill positions in the Medical and Regulatory Support (MRS) Unit in the Office of the Chief Health Officer, and positions in the Communicable Disease Control Directorate (CDCD). There is one fixed term vacancy in CDCD coming soon and one fixed term vacancy in MRS later in the year.
Communicable Disease Control Directorate
The Communicable Disease Control Directorate (CDCD) is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to the position of Senior Medical Advisor. The Senior Medical Advisor will provide public health medical and epidemiological support within CDCD across a range of program areas. Program areas include: immunisation program; infection prevention policy and surveillance unit; sexual health and blood-borne virus program; data systems and support; surveillance and disease control program. Depending on need, the Senior Medical Advisor will support one or more program area as the dedicated medical officer and assist across others as required. The Senior Medical Advisor will provide technical advice and support the development of State policies, guidelines, strategies and plans.
Medical and Regulatory Support (MRS) Unit, Office of the Chief Health Officer
The Medical and Regulatory Support (MRS) Unit has positions for suitably qualified, experienced and enthusiastic medical officers, committed to public health practice and interested in public health legislation. Positions within the MRS Unit discharge statutory duties and exercise statutory powers under the Public Health Act and other relevant public health legislation administered by the Department of Health. Positions provide public health medical leadership and direction for the development of relevant strategic plans, policies and guidelines within the Public and Aboriginal Health Division and across the WA Health system.
Other Conditions: WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake criminal records screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. Referees may also be asked to comment on an applicant’s integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour.
This recruitment process is to establish a pool of suitable candidates for Medical Officer vacancies across PAHD over the next 24 months – specifically, driven individuals who are interested in delivering WA health system public health priorities and support public health policy and actions across the WA health sector. Roles will lead and empower teams, and provide advice to the WA health system executive, partners and stakeholders.
Successful applicants may be appointed to roles across PAHD. Appointments may be made to suitable vacancies from this pool until 31/08/2026.
