Job description

At MMG we mine for progress through the development of our people and partnering with local communities to drive economic growth and the value we deliver to our shareholders. We work in complex jurisdictions and across diverse cultures and communities, and vastly differing experiences with resource development. A long-term outlook, commitment to international standards and our respect for people, land and culture underpin our success.

Why MMG?

With the world taking steps towards a transition to a low carbon economy, MMG is focused on the critical materials required to help make this change. As we look ahead, our portfolio and focus places us in a strong position to drive future growth for our business. This is an opportunity for you to be a part of this exciting future and become our next generation of business miner.

About the Role

MMG’s Melbourne head office currently has a vacancy for Principal, Mine Closure.  Located within our Asset Support and Life of Asset Planning Group, the purpose of this role is to:

  • design, manage and monitor closure planning requirements
  • ensure closure considerations, risks and costs are incorporated into life of asset planning, operational plans, and budgets
  • support operating assets with tasks and activities as per the closure strategy
  • provide closure subject matter support to merger, acquisition, divestment and project development opportunities

Our people are as diverse as our assets, and the work is varied. Based from our Melbourne Head Office, you will partner with colleagues from Peru, Africa, China, Laos and Australia, to gather information and provide best practice advice and governance to align the assets to MMG’s strategy. We recognise and respect the unique value and perspectives each person contributes to our safety, production and operational excellence outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across multiple open pit and underground operations to add value, reduce risk, and continually improve our closure processes. To be considered, we ideally seek:

  • experience across the various planning aspects related to Mine Closure and rehabilitation, with particular attention to landforms, land use, biodiversity, water and mineral waste management.
  • understanding of environmental standards and practices across the mining cycle, from exploration, project, operational, closure, to post closure phases.
  • application of a risk-based approach to closure planning and rehabilitation.
  • skills in research, stakeholder engagement, communication, report writing, presentation, and problem solving in relation to Mine Closure and rehabilitation
  • demonstrated ability to provide detailed verbal and written advice on technical, socio economic and environmental issues associated with closure planning and rehabilitation.
  • experience as senior advisor, planner or engineer with strong focus on developing operational strategies and processes for Mine Closure and rehabilitation
  • bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline (Environmental Engineering, Science, Ecology etc.)

At MMG, we invest in our people. We offer:

  • Competitive salary packages and incentive plans
  • Varied work that provides broad, global experience and exposure including opportunity for secondments and projects
  • A values-driven and collaborative work environment, bringing diverse people together
  • Hybrid working arrangements allowing you to maintain the flexibility and balance you value
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave AND up to 12 months superannuation contributions for eligible employees
  • Health and Wellbeing programs including contribution toward a gym of your choice
  • Southbank office close to public transport and amenities

We mine to build wealth through the development of our people; the investments we make in local communities; and the value we deliver to our shareholders. At MMG, we mine for progress.

We invite you to explore this opportunity and grow with MMG.

Please note, screening and interviews may take place prior to the advertised closing date. MMG will not be accepting third party applications at this time.
