About the DepartmentThe role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.About the DivisionThe Inclusive Education Division (IncED) has a central role in achieving the Education State Agenda by ensuring that all students will have access to the same quality education, regardless of their background or circumstance. This is reflective of our ambition to ensure students with disability and additional needs are engaged and active learners and are provided with the skills, knowledge and attributes they need to succeed in work and life.Specifically the purpose of the Division is to:
  • Lead the Department's efforts to implement policy and programs and enhance service delivery to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people with disability and additional needs.
  • Focus on how the education system can better support children and young people with disability. This includes implementation of inclusive education reforms and oversight of the Government's $1.6 billion Disability Inclusion reform.
  • Work across the Department and other government departments and agencies to develop and lead policy and initiatives to maximise the access, participation supported transition and achievement of children and young people with disability and additional needs.
  • Builds the capability of regional and school-based staff to improve inclusive education frameworks, interventions and practices within regions, schools and early childhood settings. This includes SSS, behaviour, trauma and mental health.
About the RoleThis role is a key leadership role within the Diverse Learners Hub (DLH).The purpose of the role is to lead the design, development and delivery of evidence based advice and supports that will build the capability of the education workforce to support diverse learners. The Principal Practice Officer will support the DLH subject matter experts to align their work within the broader intent of the DLH, Disability Inclusion Reform and the Autism Education Strategy, as well as the department's broader strategic plan.Through their leadership, knowledge and classroom experience in Teaching and Learning, the Principal Practice Officer will bring contemporary research and subject matter expertise into the work of the DLH in a practical way that builds capabilities across all levels of the department to embed inclusive practices in every school in Victoria.The role will have a lead in:
  • • building Teaching and Learning expertise and capability in area of learning difficulties in school and regional settings
  • • managing a team of up to 4 Senior Allied Health Officers and one Senior Professional Practice Officer, including supporting their professional development and ways of working with central and regional colleagues
  • • developing programs, guidance and resources to improve inclusive practice in schools
  • • engaging across the department to identify and leverage opportunities to share knowledge
  • • designing and delivering components of the DLH online knowledge hub
  • • partnering with key internal and external stakeholders
  • • procuring of expertise to inform the advice and support provided by the DLH to the education workforce
  • • other tasks, as required
In addition, the role will manage workflows to deliver key outputs as identified in the DLH's strategic pipeline of work and report on the status of work progress to governance and advisory groups. The role will also identify new work for inclusion in the pipeline in response to feedback and advice from external stakeholders, regional and school workforces and through evaluation processes.This role reports to the Manager, Diverse Learners Hub and works closely with the Hub's other Principal Practice Officer.Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Essential : Classroom experience teaching students with learning difficulties and/or autism
  • Essential : Relevant tertiary qualification in Education
