Job description:
The Principal Policy Analyst, Climate Change is responsible to the Assistant Director and senior management of the Division for the provision of authoritative strategic advice on a range of issues relating to Climate Change policy and projects. The Principal Policy Analyst, Climate Change is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, and to exercise initiative, judgement and effective communication to ensure that work is appropriately prioritised, including the ability to balance a range of competing and conflicting work priorities that are regularly impacted by non-negotiable deadline. The position works within a complex and dynamic environment and it is critical that in addition to working individually they work collaboratively as part of the broader team to ensure a consistent and cohesive delivery of outputs. The Principal Policy Analyst may manage a small team.

Period of Appointment
Appointment to the role is on a fixed term flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) for 30 months.
ReCFIT is responsible for supporting the Government in setting the State’s strategic direction in relation to Climate Change, renewable energy and future industries.
The Climate Change Branch provides a central source of advice on strategic Climate Change policy and coordinates the development and implementation of Tasmanian Government initiatives relating to Climate Change mitigation and adaptation, in partnership with all levels of government, business, industry and the community.
The key responsibilities of the Branch include:
the development and implementation of whole of government policies and programs related to both adaptation and mitigation, including those in the Tasmanian Government’s Climate Change action plan;
advice on international and national Climate Change policy and Climate Change science;
participation in state and national working groups and steering committees; and
annual statutory reporting requirements for the State’s greenhouse gas emissions.
ReCFIT is administratively supported by the Department of State Growth.
Duties
Research and analyse policy issues relevant to Climate Change matters and contribute to solutions, proposals and recommendations as they impact Tasmania.
Assist with the development and implementation of policies and initiatives that progress the Government’s strategic direction and priorities in relation to Climate Change.
Liaise and consult with State agencies, local government and other stakeholders on Climate Change policy and project issues.
Lead the administration of consultancies and funded projects, including preparation of approvals documentation and management of projects to achieve outcomes.
Prepare a range of written material, including ministerial and Cabinet documentation, reports and briefing notes and supporting material for policy, legislation, investigations and inquiries.
Plan and deliver projects and initiatives that involve coordination with other team members, State agencies and external organisations.
