Job description

Job Description:
  • A great opportunity to develop your skills and experience.
  • Lots of variety in what you do every day.
  • Be involved in issues that impact the wellbeing of the community.

We are looking for a motivated, interested and capable individual with lots of potential to join our small team. You will work as part of a highly skilled team of professionals and because of this and the broad range of issues that we deal with on a day-to-day basis, you will have plenty of opportunity to develop your skills and experience. This role would particularly suit an individual with established skills and experience in a different work environment wishing to change their career direction or a Policy Analyst with public-sector or commercial work experience.

Why work for us?

  • Treasury contributes to major government activities that improve the wellbeing of Tasmanians and support the Government’s management of the State’s financial position.
  • The nature of the work provides a great opportunity for talented individuals to develop their skills, knowledge and experience in a highly respected workplace.
  • We are a diverse, inclusive and supportive workplace with a strong values-based, team oriented and flexible, high performing culture.
  • Attractive, central city location in beautiful Tasmania.

About you

Ideally you will have:

  • a strong desire to develop your skills, experience and judgement;
  • a willingness to take on a range of responsibilities and tasks;
  • a capacity to understand numbers in the broader economic, social, business, political and other environments within which we operate (although you definitely don’t need to be an accountant!);
  • a strong capacity to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders; and
  • proven capacity and plenty of potential!

We are looking to get the best person for this role and that person could come from a broad range of backgrounds. If this sounds like you, we would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about the role and how you could be successful in it.

About the opportunity

On a day-to-day basis, the Shareholder Policy Analyst’s responsibilities will include:

  • working as part of a team to ensure that the Branch’s responsibilities are effectively achieved;
  • undertaking research, investigation and analysis of financial, economic, legal and other non financial information in relation to the performance, accountability and governance of Government businesses;
  • the provision of advice on the impact of Government business operations on Government policy objectives and proposed strategies to support the achievement of those objectives;
  • developing a good understanding of the operating environment of Tasmania’s Government businesses, and developing and maintaining effective relationships with senior officers of Government businesses;
  • assisting in the provision of advice on emerging energy issues; and
  • preparing briefs, correspondence, submissions and reports and liaising with other Treasury officers and Government businesses.

About the Branch

The primary role of the Shareholder Policy and Markets Branch is to provide good advice to the Government on the operation and strategic direction of Government businesses and associated whole-of-government policy, projects and issues. The Branch is also responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the Government business governance regime and managing the Government’s interaction with international credit rating agencies.

What you will get back

The opportunity to work in a really broad and interesting area and role that bridges both a government and commercial focus. We find that the nature of the work provides you with an opportunity to quickly develop your skills, knowledge and experience which is great for your career. You will also be provided with plenty of support and receive access to quality learning and development opportunities. As you grow in the role, you will be provided with increasing opportunities to exercise your judgement and show your capabilities.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of applicants and provide opportunities for flexible working arrangements. We want our employees to reach their full potential which is why we make reasonable adjustments to our recruitment process to enable candidates with disability, illness and injury to fully participate. Please notify us if you require any support or adjustments during the recruitment process to enable your full participation.
